Effingham Junior High School ended the regular season by edging Casey-Westfield, 5-4 in Monday baseball action.

 

The two teams played to a 1-1 opening inning tie before Casey-Westfield moved ahead 3-2 in the third. The Mustangs tied in the fourth and C-W took a 4-3 lead in the fifth. Effingham then came back with two runs in the bottom of the sixth for the victory.

Jenner Pals came on in relief to pick up the pitching win, going four innings, allowing one run on four hits, one walk and striking out three.

Carter Braddy had a single, double and drove in two runs for the Mustangs. Ian Kinkelaar had a single and double and Andrew Leonard two singles.

The Mustangs are now 10-7 and head to the Charleston Regional Wednesday against Paris Mayo at 4:30 p.m.

At Newton

Newton St. Thomas stepped out to a 5-0 opening inning lead and went on for a 9-2 win over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Monday.

St. Thomas had five hits led by Herrman with a single, double and an RBI and Fulton with a triple.

Meinhart picked up the pitching win, going 2.2 innings, allowing no runs on no hits, no walks while striking out six.

CHBC was led by Carter Dilley with a triple and Kendrick Stoldt with a single.

CHBC is 12-10 on the season and will compete in its own Class 1A Regional Wednesday against Ramsey at 4:15 p.m.

Newton St. Thomas (5-7) will compete in the Class 1A Oblong Regional and meets Effingham St. Anthony Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.

At Robinson

Teutopolis edged Robinson Nuttall, 2-1 in Monday action.

The Wooden Shoes took a 1-0 lead in the fourth and led 2-1 in the fifth and that's where the scorning ended.

T-town had six hits led by K. Mette with a double and M. Habing with two singles.

E. Bloemer went four innings on the mound allowing no runs on three hits, one walk and striking out two.

Teutopolis will play host to a Class 2A Regional beginning Wednesday. The Wooden Shoes drew the No. 2 seed and won't play until Saturday against the winner of the first game, either Shelbyville Moulton or Brownstown/St. Elmo at 10 a.m.

NC/CC drops to 4-14 and will take on Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg in the Class 2A Teutopolis Regional Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
