New York Mets pitcher Max Scherzer was put on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with “left oblique irritation.”

Scherzer left his last start on September 3 with discomfort on his left side, and the move is retroactive to the day after that game.

The three-time Cy Young Award winner missed nearly two months earlier in the season with a left oblique strain, but he said this injury is different and not as severe.
