MATTOON -- Effingham claimed an 8-4 victory over Mattoon in junior high baseball action Tuesday.

 

The Mustangs had eight hits as Carson Fox had a single and a three-run homer and Carter Braddy had three singles and an RBI,

Westin Hayes picked up the win on the mound, going 5 1/3 innings allowing one run on seven hits, and eight strikeouts. Andrew Leonard picked up the save, going one inning, allowing no runs on one hit.

At St. Anthony

Effingham St. Anthony fell to Charleston 11-1 Tuesday.

Charleston edged out to a 2-0 first inning lead. St. Anthony pulled within 2-1 in the second but Charleston scored two more in the third and fourth innings and five in the sixth to end the game via the 10-run rule.

The Bullpups had five hits led by Eric Utz with a single and a solo home run.

At Cowden

Effingham Sacred Heart edged Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, 7-6 Tuesday.

CHBC took the opening inning lead and held it until the third when the Shamrocks tallied five runs. CHBC pulled within 5-4 in the fourth but Sacred Heart scored a run in the fifth and one in the seventh. CHBC came back with two in the bottom of the seventh but fell short.

Sacred Heart used five pitchers who combined for 11 strikeouts.

Hecht had a single and triple for the winners while Traub and Mooney had a single, double and two RBI each for the Shamrocks.

CHBC was led by Carter Dilley with a double, triple and an RBI and Connor Vaughn with a single and two RBI.

Sigel St. Michael ripped out to a 9-0 opening inning lead and pounded Ramsey, 14-0 in four innings Tuesday.

The Sharpshooters had five hits led by Alex Mayer and Bryce Niebrugge with a double each. Niebrugge added an RBI. Brandt Niebrugge had two singles and an RBI and Lyncoln Dittamore and Eli Walk two RBI. The Sharpshooters also drew 13 walks in the contest.

Bryce Niebrugge went one inning for the win on the mound, allowing one hit, no walks and striking out two. Adyn Heuerman went two innings allowing no hits, one walk and striking out four and Brandt Niebrugge went an inning allowing one walk and striking out two.

Casey-Westfield nabbed a 9-6 victory over North Clay (Louisville) Tuesday.

North Clay dropped to 3-10.
