Effingham played host to Taylorville and fell to the visitors by a 5-0 count in junior high baseball Monday.

Taylorville edged out to a 4-3 opening inning lead then tacked on another run in the second. Effingham could muster only one more run in the fifth.

EJHS had six hits in the contest led by Jenner Pals with a single and triple and Carson Fox and Carter Kalber with a double each. Fox added an RBI.

EJHS falls to 7-4 on the season.

At Effingham

At Mount Zion

Mount Zion sent Effingham St. Anthony home with an 11-2 loss Monday.

Mount Zion took a 3-1 opening inning lead, had a five-run third, a one-run fifth and a two-run sixth.

St. Anthony had six hits led by Eric Utz with a double and Gabe Huebner with a single and an RBI.

Mount Zion had nine hits, four of those doubles.

Dieterich picked up a 10-4 victory over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Monday.

Dieterich took a 6-0 first inning lead and went on for the win behind six hits and four CHBC errors.

Dieterich's six hits were all singles by A. Schuttmann, B. Schuttmann with an RBI, Meinhart, N. Niemerg with two RBI and French and G. Niemerg with an RBI each. Kessler added an RBI.

CHBC was led by Remington Howell with a single, double, home run and two RBI, Porter Lilly with two singles and a double and Carter DIlley with a double.

Jasper County broke a 0-0 tie in the second with four runs and went on to down Palestine/Hutsonville, 12-0 in four innings Monday.

Nolen Cleaver threw a no-hitter with three walks while striking out 12.

Meanwhile, Jasper County had seven hits led by Cade Clark with two singles and two RBI and Chance Mulvey with a single and an RBI. Brock Anderson, Cleaver and Logan Burgener added an RBI each.

Jasper County is now 8-3-1 on the season and 4-0 in the LEIC.

Newton St. Thomas blasted Oblong by a 17-4 count Monday.

Beau Bennett went two innings to pick up the win on the mound with four strikeouts.

Quincy Fulton led the way for the winners with a single and a home run. Carter Barthelme and Gavin Meinhart had two singles each.

St. Thomas is now 3-4 on the season.
