Effingham St. Anthony edged Taylorville by an 8-7 count in junior high baseball competition Thursday.

 

The Bullpups held a 5-0 lead after four innings but Taylorville came back with a three run fifth and a four run sixth to lead 7-5. The Bullpups then tallied three in the bottom of the sixth for the win.

Eric Utz led in hitting with a double, home run and three RBI while Miles Waldhoff had two singles and a double. Will Bierman chipped in with a single, double and an RBI.

Quentin Stephens picked up the win on the mound, going 1.2 innings allowing one run on one hit, one walk and striking out one.

Dieterich handed Sigel St. Michael a 12-5 loss Thursday.

Dieterich broke a 1-1 opening inning tie with two runs in the third and fourth innings, a run in the sixth and six in the seventh.

G. Meinhart had three singles and an RBI for the winners while L. Brummer had a single and double, G. Niemerg two singles and G. French a single and two RBI.

St. Michael had eight hits led by Bryce and Brandt Niebrugge with four hits that included a single, double and two home runs. Alex Mayer had two singles and an RBI.

In a B contest, Teutopolis handed Effingham an 8-2 loss Thursday.

The Wooden Shoes held a 2-0 lead in the second, tacked on four in the third and two more in the fifth. Effingham's two runs came in the seventh.

Five players had hits for Effingham, all singles.

Newton St. Thomas fell to Casey-Westfield, 8-7 in eight innings Thursday.

Gavin Meinhart and Carter Bartheleme led the way in hitting for St. Thomas with three singles each. Quincy Fulton had a single and double.

Newton St. Thomas drops to 2-3.

 

At Louisville

North Clay/Clay City lost to Brownstown/St. Elmo by a 9-4 score Thursday.

North Clay/Clay City drops to 2-7 and travels to Neoga today.
