The Chicago White Sox signed Dan Winkler June 16.
Winkler, a St. Anthony graduate, was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in 2010 but didn't sign. The Colorado Rockies then signed him in 2011. Winkler was with the Texas Rangers Triple-A organization and opted out of his deal to become a free agent.
He was released by Round Rock Express June 1, 2022 and the White Sox signed him to a minor league contract. He is now with the Charlotte Knights in Double-A.
Winkler is 32 years old and has played in 20 games during the 2022 season with a 4.43 ERA. He's thrown 22.1 innings with 30 strikeouts and a WHIP of 1.61.
He formerly competed in the Major Leagues with the Chicago Cubs and Atlanta Braves.
Meanwhile, the New York Yankees' Chad Green, had Tommy John surgery June 4.
The Effingham High School graduate will be off the mound for 12 to 18 months while he recovers.
He finished the 2022 season with a 3.00 ERA. He appeared 14 times as a reliever and finished with a 1-1 record and a save.
After the 2022 season, Green will become a free agent.
