Hearts Win, To Play For Regional Baseball Title

Effingham High School defeated Charleston 9-2 in the Class 3A Centralia Baseaball Regional Thursday.

The Hearts took the initiative early, as Quest Hull doubled home three runs in the first inning. EHS moved that lead to 6-0 in the third as the offensive onslaught came from singles by Hull and Camden Raddatz.

John Harper helped lead the way for the Hearts with four singles. Raddatz finished with two singles, a triple and two RBI. Hull finished with two singles, a double and four RBI.

Meanwhile, on the mound, the Hearts held Charleston to only three hits. Josh McDevitt went the first inning, allowing no runs on no hits, one walk while striking out three. Hull came on to go the rest of the six innings, allowing two runs on three hits, one walk and striking out nine.

The two runs for the Trojans came in the sixth inning but the Hearts added two more of their own in the bottom of the frame.

Effingham now advances to a meeting with Mattoon at 11 a.m .Saturday for the Centralia Regional championship and a trip to the Troy Triad Sectional next Wednesday.

Class 2A Teutopolis Sectional

In the Teutopolis Sectional Thursday, Breese Mater Dei edged Flora by a 1-0 count.

Mater Dei advances to the championship Saturday against Columbia at 10 a.m.
