BSE Advances In Baseball Regionals; T-town, Altamont, Neoga, Newton Seasons End

ALTAMONT -- Brownstown/St. Elmo came back from a 4-0 deficit to hand Altamont a 10-4 loss in the Class 1A Altamont Baseball Regional Friday.

BSE edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead but Altamont moved ahead with four in the second. BSE tallied another run in the third then took a 5-4 lead in the top of the fourth. From there, the Bombers added on four in the fifth and one more in the seventh.

Brady Maxey led the way offensively for the winners with two singles, a double and two RBI while Dalton Myers and Cade Schaub added two singles. Myers drove in two runs.

Myers picked up the win on  the mound going six innings allowing four runs on three hits, three walks while striking out seven.

Altamont had only three hits, all singles by Tyler Robbins, Mason Robinson and Kienon Eirhart.

Brownstown/St. Elmo now has an 11-11 record and advances to the regional championship game today at 4 p.m. against  Effingham St. Anthony.

Class 1A Casey-Westfield Regional

Casey-Westfield edged Neoga, 2-1 in Friday regional action.

The Warriors took a 1-0 lead in the first inning before Neoga tied in the fifth. Casey-Westfield then won with a run in the sixth.

Neoga was held to three hits. Quintin Richards had a double while Ryan Koester and Bryar Hennesay had a single each. Hennesay had an RBI.

Casey-Westfield advanced to its own regional championship and will face Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg at 4:30 p.m. today for the crown.

Class 2A Vandalia Regional

Teutopolis fell to Salem, 7-6 Friday in the Vandalia Regional.

The two teams tallied a single run in the first inning. The Wildcats moved ahead 4-2 in the second. T-town came back with one in the third, two in the fourth and one in the fifth to lead 6-4. But Salem scored three runs in the sixth for the victory.

T-town outhit Salem by a 12-8 count. Kayden Althoff had a double and a solo home run while Mitch Althoff had two singles, a double and two RBI. Sam Bushur added a single and double and Garrett Gaddis a triple. Cade Buehnerkermper, Caleb Siemer and Evan Waldhoff had a single and an RBI each.

The  Wooden Shoes finish the spring season at 23-12. Salem improved to 14-20 and will meet Vandalia for the championship today.

Class 2A Newton Regional

Newton moved ahead its own regional with a 4-1 victory over Marshall Friday.

The Eagles held a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning then tacked on three in the sixth. Marshall's lone run came in the seventh.

Newton had five hits led by Owen Mahaffey with a home run and four RBI, Mason Mulvey with a single and double and Gage Reynolds with a double.

Mason Schafer was the winner on the mound, going all seven innings, allowing one run on seven hits, no walks while striking out 10.

Newton moved into the championship game against Flora and fell to the Wolves, 3-2.

Flora edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead then tallied two in the top of the sixth. Newton came back with two runs on a two-run homer by Isaac Flowers. But Newton couldn't score in the seventh.

Carder Reich added a single and double while Mason Muvley had two singles for Newton.

Championships Today

Three regional championships will be decided today.

In the Class 1A Altamont Regional, Brownstown/St. Elmo and Effingham St. Anthony will meet at 4 p.m.

In the Class 1A North Clay (Louisville) Regional, the host squad will take on South Central at 4 p.m.

In the Class 1A Casey-Westfield Regional, Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg will face Casey-Westfield at 4:30 p.m.
