EHS Downs Bethalto Civic Memorial In Baseball

Effingham trailed Bethalto Civic Memorial until the sixth inning then pulled out a 14-7 win in high school baseball action Friday.

Civic Memorial held a 4-1 lead in the third inning then tacked on two in the fourth and one in the fifth for a 7-1 lead.

But the Hearts came roaring back with a seven-run sixth to move ahead 8-7 and then tallied six more in the seventh.

EHS pounded out 17 hits led by Camden Raddatz with two singles, a home run and five RBI, Quest Hull with three singles and two RBI, John Harper with two singles, a double and an RBI and Joe Matteson with three singles and an RBI. Gabe Eaton added a single and double and Max Hardiek a single and two RBI.

Josh McDevitt started the game for the Hearts going 2.1 innings allowing three runs on three hits, no walks and seven strikeouts. Quest Hull came on in the fourth inning going 1.2 innings allowng one run on two hits, no walks and four strikeouts for the win.

In junior varsity/freshman play, the Hearts junior varsity defeated Bethalto Civic Memorial's freshmen, 4-2.

EHS had 13 hits in the contest led by K. Koberlein with three singles, N. Biggs with two singles and a double, E. Jones with two singles and an RBI and Z. Donaldson and B. Verdeyen with two singles each.
