The St. Anthony Bulldogs turned things around to capture the final game of the 2022 Baseball City Series Friday night, downing the Effingham Hearts in five innings, 11-0. The game was heard on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com

Effingham still won the City Series two games to one, but the Bulldogs finished the series on a good note, not the least of which was a no-hitter by senior lefthander Colton Fearday. Just Effingham four batters reached base against Fearday on three walks and an error. Meanwhile, Fearday fanned eight Hearts batters in his five innings of work.

Meanwhile, the Bulldogs were able to flip the script after having scored just two runs in the first two games of the series.

Eli Levitt got it started for the Bulldogs in the first inning with a solo shot over the left field fence to give St. Anthony its first lead of the series.

The Bulldogs added four runs in the second inning. With one out, Brody Niebrugge singled to left followed by a single by Max Koenig. Beau Adams then singled, Fearday reached on an error and Levitt walked. That set the stage for Angelo Mendella who hit a bases-clearing triple to make it 5-0.

St. Anthony added a run in the third  Connor Roepke singled to start the inning and Brody Niebrugge drove him home to make it 6-0.

The Bulldogs put the game away with a five-run fourth inning. Mendella led off with a single, Brock Fearday singled, Eli Link walked, Niebrugge reached on an error, and Koenig singled home a run. Adams walked, then Fearday cleared the bases with a double.

While Fearday was on his game on the mound, Effingham used four pitchers. Brayden Pals gave up five runs in 1-2/3 innings, but only one earned, five hits, with two walks and two strikeouts. Andrew Donaldson pitched an inning and gave up a run on four hits and a walk. Jackson Doedtman got an out but gave up two runs on two hits with a strikeout. Camden Raddatz pitched the final inning, giving up three runs on two hits and two walks.

Colton Fearday, Angelo Mendella, Brock Fearday, Brody Niebrugge and Max Koenig each had two hits for the Bulldogs.

St. Anthony picked up their 17th win of the season.
