Effingham High School stole the lead late in the game and went on for a 10-3 victory over Taylorville in baseball action Tuesday.

The Tornadoes edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead then pushed that to 3-0 in the third.

The Hearts tallied one in the fifth and moved ahead with three in the sixth. That came with the help of a two-run homer by Joe Matteson.

EHS then scored six more in the seventh for the winning margin. The Hearts finished with 11 hits in the game including a single along with his two-run homer by Matteson, Max Hardiek withi a single double and three RBI, John Harper with three singles and Gauge Massey and Evan Waymoth with a single and two RBI each.

Camden Raddatz got the win on the hill. He came on in the fifth and threw two innings allowing no runs on no hits, two walks and two strikeouts.

At Mulberry Grove

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City blanked Mulberry Grove, 3-0 in Tuesday action.

The Bobcats scored two runs in the third and tacked on a final run in the seventh.

Silas Buzzard had a full day, picking up the win on the mound and getting both CHBC hits with a single, double and two RBI.

Wyatt Phillips didn't allow a single run as his Altamont squad blanked Brownstown/St. Elmo by a 3-0 count Tuesday.

Phillips went seven innings allowing no runs on two hits, no walks while striking out seven.

The Indians scored two in the third and finished with one in the sixth.

Tyler Robbins had a single and double while Dillan Elam had two singles. Jared Hammer had a single and drove in two runs while Kaidyn Miller had a single and an RBI.

BSE was led by Adam Atwood and Dalton Myers with a single each. BSE drops to 9-10 on the season and returns to action Friday against Ramsey.

At Altamont

South Central ran off to a 6-0 first inning lead and finished this contest by the five run rule in the fifth, 11-1 over Pana.

The Cougars banged out 11 hits that included three home runs. Anthony Buonaura had a homer with two RBI while Aidan Dodson had a single, home run and an RBI. Beau Jolliff had a single, home run and two RBI. Ethan Watwood chipped in with two singles, a double and an RBI. Brody Markley added two singles and Chase Thompson had a single and three RBI.

Buonaura went the five innings on the mound, allowing one run on three hits, four walks while striking out eight.

At Benton

Teutopolis held a 2-1 lead in the top of the third but Benton broke loose with a six-run bottom of the inning and went on for an 11-3 victory Tuesday.

Benton had 13 hits in the contest led by two home runs by Kinsman and Wyant.

The Wooden Shoes were led by Sam Bushur with two singles, a home run and an RBI and Derek Konkel with a double, home run and an RBI.

T-town dropped to 19-10 on the season while Benton improved to 16-8. Dylan Pruemer suffered his first loss on the mound and is 6-1.

The Wooden Shoes will be back in action Thursday at Olney.

Newton traveled to Father McGivney and fell by a 6-4 count Tuesday.

Father McGivney held a 2-0 lead after the first two innings. Newton tallied three in the top of the fourth to take the lead but Father McGivney came back with two in the fifth and two in the sixth.

The Eagles outhit Father McGivney by a 9-4 count. Isaac Flowers had two singles and an RBI while Gus Bierman had a double and two RBI. Ben Meinhart added two singles and Owen Mahaffey had a single and an RBI.
