Members of the Effingham Noon Rotary Club got first-hand information on the 2013 City Baseball Series on the day the Series opened Wednesday.

St. Anthony Bulldogs Coach Kenny Miller and Effingham Hearts Coach Chris Fleener were the guest speakers at Wednesday's weekly meeting.  Both reflected on their teams, success in the past, and promise for the future.

The teams split a doubleheader Wednesday night, with St. Anthony posting a 2-1 win in the opener behind a two-run Austin Bushur homer and Effingham winning the nightcap 4-1 based on a four-run fifth inning.

Miller's squad is the defending Class 1A State Champions, but many changes due to graduation and the elevation of the team to Class 2A this season have been challenges for this year's team.  The Bulldogs start post-season play next Wednesday at the Robinson 2A Regional.

This season has also been a challenge for Fleener, whose 2012 team set a school record for victories with 27, but was hit hard by graduation.

Thursday action in the City Series was rained out, but the baseball game has been re-scheduled for Friday at 7pm at Evergreen Hollow Park.  We'll have the game on 979XFM.

The City Softball Series Game 3 was also postponed to Friday at 4:30pm at Bulldog Field at St. Anthony High School.  Hear that game on KJ Country 102.3.
