N. Clay Edges Altamont, Dieterich, Newton Win In Baseball

The Cardinals edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead as Holden Clifton singled, scoring the run. North Clay pushed across a second run in the fourth.
Donnie Zimmerman kept the Indians off balance through the first four innings and finished with the win going six innings allowing one run on three hits, no walks while striking out five.
Altamont tallied a run in the top of the fifth but North Clay came back to move ahead 6-1 in the bottom of the frame.
Then came the heroics by the Indians as the crew scored three in the top of the seventh only to fall short.
Carson Burkett and Layton Dawkins had two singles and an RBI each for the winners. Collyn Ballard had a double and Dakota Weidner and Zimmerman had a single and an RBI each.
Altamont had seven hits led by Kaidyn Miller with two singles, Dillan Elam with a double and an RBI and Nathan Stuemke with a single and an RBI.
The Indians fell to 11-8 on the season while North Clay improved to 21-3.

Dieterich's Garrett Niebrugge was in charge on the mound Thursday as Dieterich blanked Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, 4-0.
Niebrugge went 6.2 innings, allowing no runs on one hit, one walk while striking out 15. Pete Britton came on to get the final out on a strikeout.
Britton, meanwhile, was the offensive leader with two doubles and two RBI while Niebrugge added a double. Jaxon Funneman had a single and drove in two runs.
CHBC's only hit was a single by Carson Evans.

Newton banged out 12 hits and handed Robinson a 9-2 loss in action Thursday.
The Eagles took a 2-0 lead in the second, tacked on four in the third and three more in the fourth.
Isaac Flowers had a single, home run and drove in four while Mason Schafer had two doubles and two RBI and Mason Mulvey a single and double. Gus Bierman and Dalton Baltzell had a single and an RBI each while Carder Reich had two singles.
Schafer went the distance, allowing two runs on three hits, no walks while striking out seven.
At Newton

Vandalia came calling and edged Brownstown/St. Elmo, 4-3 Thursday.
BSE held a 2-0 first inning lead. Vandalia came back with a run in the second and moved ahead 3-2 in the third. Both teams scored a run in the fourth and that was all the scoring the rest of the game.
Both teams had six hits and BSE finished with two errors.
Dalton Myers had a double for the Bombers while Wyatt Chandler had a single and two RBI.
Brownstown/St. Elmo is now 8-6 on the season and returns to action today against Neoga.

Mattoon took a 3-0 first inning lead and went on for a 4-1 win over Teutopolis Thursday.
The Green Wave held a 4-0 lead in the third. T-town's lone run came in the sixth as Caleb Siemer singled home the run.
The Wooden Shoes had five hits, all singles by Siemer, Sam Bushur, Cade Buehnerkemper, Ben Goeckner and Mitch Althoff.
Bushur suffered the loss on the mound going four inings, allowing four runs on five hits, one walk while striking out three.
T-town dropped to 12-7 on the season and is back in action today hosting Marshall at 4:30 p.m.
