EHS Downs S. Central, St. A Wins Over WSS, Altamont Loses On Walk-Off HR, Neoga Wins

South Central High School pushed into a 4-1 opening inning lead on Effingham but the Hearts didn't fold and came back for an 8-5 baseball victory Wednesday.

EHS weathered the opening inning push by the Cougars, trailing 5-2 after two innings. But the Hearts put together a five-run third and added on a final run in the fourth.

In the third, Camden Raddatz singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run and Myles Maxedon knocked out a three-run homer.

Gauge Massey got the win going three innings, allowing five runs on five hits, one walk and three strikeouts. Andrew Donaldson came on to go the final four innings, allowing no runs on no hits, no walks and three strikeouts.

Massey also had a double offensively while Max Hardiek had two singles and an RBI.

Beau Jolliff hit a two-run shot for the Cougars while Aidan Dodson had a single, double and drove in three runs and Anthony Buonaura had a double.

At Effingham

At Strasburg

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg took the opening inning lead and led 2-1 after four innings. But Effingham St. Anthony came back with a three-run fifth to move ahead 4-2 and finished out with a run in the seventh for the 5-2 victory Wednesday.

The Bulldogs had eight hits. Connor Roepke hit a home run and finished with two RBI. Brady Hatton had a double and two RBI while Will Hoene added a double and an RBI. Also adding a double was Brody Niebrugge. Eli Levitt and Colton Fearday added two singles each.

Windsor/Stew-Stras was led by Carter Chaney with a double. Austin Wittenberg, Gavan Wernsing and Samuel Vonderheide had a single each.

C. Fearday picked up the win for the Bulldogs, going six innings, allowing one run on four hits, one walk while striking out 12.

Windsor/Stew-Stras dropped to 14-3 on the season.

At Charleston

The game was tied at 6-6 going into the bottom of the seventh when Charleston's Logan Beals came up with a walk-off three-run homer to pull out the 9-6 win over Altamont Wednesday.

Altamont held the reins through the first five innings, taking a 5-2 lead. Kienon Eirhart drew a walk and scored the opening inning run. The Indians came back to lead 2-0 in the second. The Trojans tallied a run in the bottom of the third, but Altamont retaliated with a three-run fifth on a home run by Eirhart to lead 5-2.

Altamont led 6-2 in the top of the sixth before Charleston tallied four in the bottom of the frame and then came the game-winner in the seventh.

The Indians had seven hits led by Eirhart with his three-run homer, Kaidyn Miller with a double and triple, Nathan Stuemke with two singles and two RBI and Mason Robinson with two singles.

Robinson started the contest on the mound, going five innings, allowing five runs on five hits, three walks while striking out five. He took a shot off the foot on a line drive and eventually left the mound as Altamont held a 5-2 lead. 

The Indians dropped to 11- 8 on the season while Charleston improved to 8-5.

At Martinsville

Neoga High School trailed Martinsville for four innings before tying the game and then busting loose for an 8-2 victory Wednesday.

The score was 2-2 in the fifth before Neoga tallied one in the sixth and five in the seventh.

Neoga had eight hits led by Micah Staszak with two singles and three RBI, Luke Romack with a single, double and two RBI and Will O'Dell with two singles and an RBI.

Kaden Will took the pitching win, going 4.1 innings allowing two runs on two hits, four walks and four strikeouts. Staszak came on to finish out the 2.2 innings, allowing one hit, one walk while striking out three.
