Bulldogs, Indians, Shoes, Eagles Win In Baseball

It took a while for Effingham St. Anthony to hit the scoreboard but when the Bulldogs did, it was to claim a 4-1 victory over Salem in high school baseball action Thursday.

The Wildcats moved into a 1-0 lead in the second inning and held that until the sixth.

That's when the Bulldogs broke loose with four runs as Angelo Mendella hit a three-run homer. Beau Adams, Colton Fearday, Brady Hatton and Brock Fearday had a single each.

Hatton went five innings allowing one run on three hits, four walks and striking out four. But Max Koenig came on in the sixth to pick up the victory. He threw two innings allowing no runs on no hits, one walk and striking out two.

At St. Anthony

At Altamont

Two pitchers combined to throw a shutout as Altamont blanked Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, 10-0 in six innings Thursday.

Both teams went scoreless through the first three innings. The Indians then secured the victory thanks to six runs in the fourth inning. Logan Cornett, Tyler Robbins and Dillan Elam each drove in runs during the frame.

Aden McManaway was credited with the victory on the mound. He gave up four hits over five and a third innings, striking out five and walking one. Mason Winn came on to finish out the final two-thirds of an inning.

The Indians tallied 12 hits in the game. Robbins led the way with a single, two doubles and three RBI. Nathan Stuemke added two singles and two RBI. Logan Cornett had a single, double and an RBI while Kienon Eirhart added two singles. Dillan Elam had a single and drove in two runs and Mason Robinson had a single and an RBI.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City was led by Wyatt Rueff with a double.

At Altamont

At Teutopolis

Caleb Siemer hit a deep drive to centerfield that scored two runs as Teutopolis pulled out a 4-3 victory over Mount Zion Thursday.

The Wooden Shoes held a 1-0 opening inning lead. Mount Zion tied in the fifth and moved ahead 2-1 in the sixth. T-town tied in the bottom of the seventh and the game went three extra innings before Siemer hit the shot that scored the tying and winning runs.

T-town had 10 hits in the contest led by Siemer's double and two RBI. Cade Buehnerkemper added two singles and drove in the run in the first and the tying run in the seventh. Dylan Pruemer and Sam Bushur had a single and double each. Garrett Gaddis added two singles.

Gaddis ended up the winner in the mound going one inning, allowing one hit, one walk and striking out one.

T-town improved to 9-5 while Mount Zion dropped to 6-6. T-town is back in action Saturday at Centralia.

At Lawrenceville

Newton High School took the early lead and went on for a 5-2 victory over Lawrenceville Thursday.

The Eagles tallied single runs in the second, fourth and seventh and two in the fifth.

Mason Schafer hit a solo home run for the winners. Carder Reich had a single, double and an RBI while Mason Mulvey had two singles. Isaac Flowers and Gage Reynolds had a single and drove in a run each.

Reich went the seven innings on the mound, giving up two runs on three hits, one walk while striking out 14.

At Lawrenceville
