Effingham High School knocked in seven runs in the first inning on its way to an 8-1 high school baseball victory over Neoga Tuesday.

The barrage was led by home runs off the bats of Quest Hull and Andrew Donaldson and a single by Joe Matteson. Hull's homer was a three-run shot while Donaldson's scored two runs.

Kaiden Nichols earned the win on the mound. He gave up one run on three hits over three and a third innings, striking out five. Jackson Doedtman and Gauge Massey entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.

John Harper had two singles while Myles Maxedon added a double. Joe Matteson and Camden Raddatz had a single and an RBI each.

Neoga had a total of six hits led by Carter Young with two singles and an RBI and Micah Staszak with two singles.

At Neoga

At Strasburg

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg trailed Cumberland 2-1 until the bottom of the fifth and tallied three runs to claim a 4-2 victory Tuesday.

Both teams had five hits. The Hatchets were led by Austin Wittenberg with two singles and Gavan Wernsing and Samuel Vonderheide with a single and an RBI each. Graham Kasey added an RBI.

Cumberland was led by Gavin Hendrix with a single, double and an RBI. Windsor/Stew-Stras improved to 13-1 on the season.

Kasey kept the Pirates off balance with 17 strikeouts. He went the distance allowing two runs on five hits and one walk.

At Brownstown

Brownstown/St. Elmo took the early lead, but Dieterich came back in the last two innings for a 6-4 win Tuesday.

BSE moved ahead 3-2 in the first inning. Dieterich knotted the score in the third and moved ahead with two runs in the sixth and one in the seventh.

Noah Dill picked up the win going 5.2 innings, allowing three runs on five hits, one walk and 10 strikeouts. Pete Britton came on for the save.

Dieterich had seven hits led by Britton with a single, double and an RBI and Lucas Westendorf with a double and an RBI.

BSE was led by Dalton Myers and Jarrett Pasley with a single and two RBI each.

Brownstown/St. Elmo dropped to 5-5 on the season and will be back in action today against Martinsville.

Tyler Robbins had all the right stuff on the mound for Altamont Tuesday, keeping Ramsey from scoring while allowing only three hits, no walks and striking out eight for the 19-0 victory in four innings.

Altamont edged out to a 3-0 first inning lead but brought home 11 runs in the second and finished off with five in the fourth.

The offensive onslaught came from two doubles and three RBI by Kienon Eirhart, two singles and three RBI by Jared Hammer, two singles and two RBI each by Nathan Stuemke and Mason Robinson, Robbins aided his own cause with two singles and an RBI. Hayden Siebert added a single and drove in three runs.

At Ramsey

At Louisville

North Clay/Clay City improved to 17-2 on the season with a 7-1 victory over South Central Tuesday.

The Cardinals held a 1-0 opening inning lead, tacked on a single run in the third, two in the fourth and three in the sixth.

Carson Burkett went seven innings allowing one run on four hits, no walks and 11 strikeouts.

Collyn Ballard hit a home run and finished with two RBI. Brady Ingram had two doubles and three RBI. Bryton Griffy had two singles.

South Central was led by Anthony Buonaura with two singles and Brandt Hiestand with a triple.

At Charleston

Teutopolis improved to 8-5 on the season with a 9-4 victory over Charleston Tuesday.

The Wooden Shoes and Trojans were tied at 1-1 after three innings. Charleston moved ahead with two runs in the fourth. But T-town came back with a five-run sixth and tallied three more in the seventh.

Coach Justin Fleener's crew had nine hits in the contest led by Mitch Althoff with a two-run homer, Cade Buehnerkemper with a single, two doubles and two RBI, Luke Koester with a double and an RBI and Garrett Gaddis with a single and two RBI.

Kayden Althoff threw a seven-hitter with one walk while striking out eight for the win on the mound.

Charleston fell to 6-3 on the season and is back in action today hosting Effingham St. Anthony.

T-town returns to play Thursday at Mount Zion.

Newton High  School trailed Mattoon through five innings, 2-0, but rallied, scoring three runs in the top of the sixth and one in the seventh for a 4-2 win Tuesday.

The Eagles had four hits and were aided by four Mattoon errors.

Ben Meinhart, Carder Reich, Isaac Flowers and Gage Reynolds had a single each for the Eagles. Reich and Flowers had an RBI each.

Gus Bierman picked up the win, going six innings, allowing two runs on six hits, one walk while striking out three.
