EHS, St. Anthony Winners in Baseball; Area Roundup

Effingham High School broke a 1-1 tie with a run in the third and went on to down Neoga 4-2 in baseball action Tuesday.
The Hearts' Trent Frey pitched a five-hitter with no walks and four strikeouts to pick up the win and improve to 1-1 on the season.
EHS was led by D. Levitt with a single, home run and two RBI and C. Hayes with a double and an RBI. The Hearts are now 10-9 on the season.
In a junior varsity game, Effingham led Neoga 3-2 after six innings before the game was called because of darkness.
EHS is back in action today in a doubleheader against Effingham St. Anthony in the annual City Series. The games will be played at Paul Smith Field beginning at 4:30 p.m.

St. Anthony scored in three innings in claiming a 5-1 victory over Altamont. The Bulldogs had five hits in the contest and Neil Williams picked up the pitching win on a one-hitter over three innings to improve to 1-1.
Austin Bushur hit a solo home run in the second. Williams added a double and two RBI.

The Shoes had nine hits in the contest with four extra base hits in the contest. J. Waldhoff had a single, triple and an RBI while C. Wendling had a single, double and two RBI, B. Wenthe a double and two RBI and D. Smith a double. C. Will added two singles and an RBI.
J. Waldhoff picked up the pitching win on a seven-hitter with one walk and nine strikeouts. T-town improves to 21-3 and Waldhoff moved his record to 5-0.

St. Elmo stepped out to a 2-0 first inning lead and never looked back in a 10-1 win over Mulberry Grove.
Connor Beasley moved his pitching record to 5-2 going four innings, allowing one run, one hit, three walks and striking out three.
Levi Maxey had a single, double and two RBI while Beasley had two singles, a double and two RBI. Dalton Parks tallied two singles and an RBI. The Eagles improve to 9-6.

Altamont claimed a 3-0 win over Windsor. The Indians tallied a run in the fourth and two in the fifth.
Ledbetter improved his pitching record to 11-2 with a three-hitter, no walks and 12 strikeouts. Phillips and Alwardt had a double each for the winners.
Altamont improves to 14-3 on the season.

Newton edged Cumberland 8-7. Both teams had seven hits in the contest but the Pirates finished with seven errors.
Knepper picked up the pitching win allowing three runs, seven hits, four walks and striking out 13. Chesnut had two doubles for the winners while Reis had three singles and two RBI and Knepper a double and an RBI.
Cumberland was led by Clark with a single and double and Swingler with a double and an RBI.
