The Chicago Cubs and Milwaukee Brewers kicked off the Major League Baseball season on Opening Day Thursday, their game becoming the first of the new season after the New York Yankees-Boston Red Sox matchup was rained out.

The Cubs’ Nico Hoerner had the first home run of the season, a two-run drive in the fifth inning at Chicago’s Wrigley Field, with the Cubs going on to win 5-4.

The St. Louis Cardinals opened with a 9-0 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates as Oliver Marmol claimed his first victory as a manager.

St. Louis showed power with three home runs as Tyler O'Neill notched a three-run shot in the second and finished with five RBI on the day while Tommy Edman hit a solo homer in the eighth and Nolan Arenado had a two-run blow in the eighth.
