EHS Splits Apollo DH; Area Baseball Roundup

The Hearts fell behind early in the opening contest and couldn't come back in a 12-9 loss. The Braves scored on a home run by McInerney in the first inning and a home run by Kosloski in the second inning. The Braves held a 6-2 lead after two innings.
EHS outhit the Braves, 12-11 but could never get untracked. The Hearts were led by John Harper with two singles, a double and an RBI, Max Hardiek a single, double and three RBI, Gauge Massey with three singles and two RBI and Joe Matteson with a single and double.
In the second contest, Mount Zion outhit Effingham by a 7-3 count but the Hearts pulled out the 1-0 victory.
Josh McDevitt was the winner on the mound striking out eight while giving up only one walk.
The lone run came in the first inning as Effingham's Harper drove in the run on a single. Harper finished with two singles. Quest Hull was the only other player with a hit, a single.
The Hearts didn't committ an error in the contest. EHS is back in action today hosting Teutopolis at Evergreen Hollow Park.
In the junior varsity games, Effingham was a 12-2 winner and a 7-2 winner.

At St. Joseph
Teutopolis split victories at St. Joseph-Ogden Saturday.
The Wooden Shoes downed Lisle by a 7-2 count. T-town took a 1-0 lead in the second and led 2-1 in the fourth. The Shoes then had a five-run sixth.
T-town outhit Lisle by an 11-3 count. Sam Bushur had two doubles and two RBI while Mitch Althoff had a single, home run and one RBI. Joseph Ruholl chipped in with two singles.
Bushur picked up the victory, going four innings, allowing one run on two hits, no walks and three strikeouts.
T-town then fell to St. Joseph-Ogden, 12-2 in five innings.
St. Joseph-Ogden held a 2-0 lead in the first. T-town tied in the top of the third but St. Joe tallied six in the botom of the frame and finished the game with four in the fourth and four in the fifth.
T-town had five hits led by Bushur with two singles and Derek Konkel with a double and an RBI.
The Wooden Shoes are back in action today against Effingham at Evergreen Hollow Park.

South Central split victories at the Edwards County Round Robin Saturday.
South Central blanked the host squad by an 8-0 score. The Cougars scored two in the third, four in the fourth and two in the sixth.
Chase Thompson had three singles and three RBI while Max Magnus had a single and drove in two runs. Brandt Hiestand and Spencer Johannes had a single and an RBI each.
Anthony Buonaura was the winner on the mound, going 4.2 innings, allowing no runs on four hits, one walk while striking out 11. Ethan Watwood came on to go 1.1 innings, striking out three
South Central then claimed a 14-8 win over Vienna behind a 12-hit attack.
The Cougars trailed Vienna 8-0 until the third inning when they scored seven runs then moved ahead 10-8 in the fourth.
Aidan Dodson had two singles, a double and an RBI while Thompson added a single, double and an RBI, Magnus two singles and two RBI, Hiestand a single, double and two RBI and Ethan Watwood a double and three RBI.
Ethan Dunn was the winner on the mound, going the last five innings, allowing no runs on one hit, four walks and four strikeouts.

Altamont picked up a victory but suffered two losses in action Friday and Saturday.
The Indians lost the lead late in the game to Flora Friday and fell 9-5.
Altamont held a 4-0 lead in the third. Flora tallied one run then took a 5-4 lead in the top of the fourth. Altamont tied the score in the bottom of the frame but the Wolves went on to tally three in the fifth and one in the sixth.
The Indians outhit Flora by a 9-7 count. Kaidyn Miller led the way with two singles, a double and an RBI. Tyler Robbins added two doubles and two RBI while Nathan Stuemke had two singles.
Altamont trounced Alden-Hebron by a 23-6 count Friday.
Altamont took a 10-6 lead after two innings then scored nine in the third and four in the fourth for the four-inning victory.
Nathan Shepard had two doubles and drove in two runs while Robbins had a single, double and three RBI. Aden McManaway added a double and two RBI. Kienon Eirhart. Mason Winn and Jared Hammer had a single and two RBI each. Hayden Siebert added two RBI.
Robbins picked up the pitching win, going 2.1 innings allowing five runs on five hits, five walks and four strikeouts. Wyatt Phillips came on to finish out the 1.2 innings allowing one hit, two walks and striking out two.
In a Saturday contest, Altamont fell to Centralia, 4-1.
Centralia held a 2-0 lead in the second then tacked on single runs in the third and fourth. Altamont's lone run came in the sixth.
Altamont outhit Centralia, 5-2. Hammer had a double and an RBI while Dillan Elam added a double.
Elam picked up the loss on the mound, going five innings, allowing four runs on one hit, six walks and seven strikeouts.

Newton split wins in Saturday play.
The Eagles fell to Champaign Central, 4-2. Central took a 1-0 first inning lead and tacked on three in the third.
Newton outhit Central, 9-6. The Eagles were led by Isaac Flowers with two singles and an RBI and Mason Mulvey and Mason Schafer with two singles each.
In Saturday action, Newton came back to pound Fairfield, 18-3 in four innings.
The Eagles held an 8-0 opening lead. Newton had eight hits led by Owen Mahaffey with a single, home run and four RBI, Ben Meinhart with two singles and three RBI and Mason Muvley with a single and two RBI.
Brandon Einhorn picked up the pitching win, going all four innings, allowing three runs on three hits, two walks and striking out five.

Neoga tallied an 8-4 victory over host Tuscola Saturday.
Tuscola held a 1-0 lead after two innings, a 2-0 lead after four and a 4-0 lead after five.
Starting slowly, the Indians came back to tie the score in the fourth then won it with four runs in the ninth.
Neoga had 10 hits led by Luke Romack with two singles and four RBI, Ryan Koester with three singles and two RBI, Malachi Staszak with a single and double and Kaden Young with two singles.
Bryar Hennesay picked up the pitching win.
Neoga is back in action today against Shelbyville.
