Effingham St. Anthony scored runs in the first four innings and captured a 9-4 victory over Salem in high school baseball action Monday.

The Bulldogs edged out to a 2-0 first inning lead then tacked on a single run in the second, three in the third, two in the fourth and finished out with one in the seventh.

Brody Niebrugge had a good day, taking the win on the mound by going five innings, allowing four runs on three hits, six walks and six strikeouts.

He had a good day at the plate with a double, home run and two RBI.

Colton Fearday had a double and drove in two runs while Angelo Mendella had a triple and Eli Levitt two singles. Beau Adams had a single and an RBI.

Salem finished with four hits and had five errors.

At Altamont

South Central took a 1-0 first inning lead and went on for a 6-2 win over Altamont as the two National Trail Conference teams met Monday.

Altamont tied in the second inning but the Cougars brought home three in the third and two more in the fifth. Altamont finished out with a run in the bottom of the seventh.

South Central had six hits led by Beau Jolliff with a single, double and an RBI. Brandt Hiestand had a single and two RBI and Ethan Dunn a single and an RBI. Chase Thompson and Andrew Magnus added an RBI each.

Indian pitchers gave up eight walks in the contest but South Central had four errors.

Altamont was led in hitting by Mason Robinson with two doubles, Dillan Elam with a single and an RBI and Wyatt Phillips with an RBI.

 At Teutopolis

Teutopolis scored a lone run in the sixth inning and that's all it took in the 1-0 victory over Mahomet-Seymour Monday.

It was a pitcher's duel as five took the mound, two for T-town and three for Mahomet-Seymour. 

Neither team scored through the five five innings. Derek Konkel went four innings, allowing one hit, one walk while striking out eight. Dylan Pruemer picked up the victory, finishing out the final three innings, allowing one hit, three walks while striking out six.

T-town's hits were singles by Caleb Siemer and Logan Roepke. The lone RBI was by Mitch Althoff.

Mahomet-Seymour pitchers combined to give up one run on two hits, four walks and eight strikeouts.

The Wooden Shoes are now 2-1 on the season and back in action today at Breese Mater Dei, weather permitting.

At Strasburg

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg broke a 1-1 third inning tie with three runs in the fifth and went on for a 6-1 victory over Moweaqua Central A&M Monday.

The Hatchets had eight hits in the contest and were aided by three A&M errors.

Half of Windsor/Stew-Stras' hits were doubles. Samuel Vonderheide had a single, double and an RBI while Tyler Wetherell had a double and an RBI and Carter Chaney and Rhett Rincker a double each. Jordan Wittenberg added an RBI.

Graham Kasey went the distance on the mound, allowing one run on four hits, one walk while striking out seven.

Neoga had an easy time Monday by bouncing Heritage, 24-0 in four innings.

The Indians took a 2-0 first inning lead then had 11-run innings in the second and third.

Neoga had 12 hits in the contest led by Malachi Staszak with a single and double and Ryan Koester and Riley Durdel with a double each and Micah Staszak with two singles.

Quintin Richards was the winning pitcher, allowing one hit.

Neoga is now 2-3 on the season and returns to action today, weather permitting, at Brownstown/St. Elmo.

Newton High School banged out 13 hits in handing Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City a 12-1 loss in six innings Monday.

The Eagles held a 3-1 lead in the second inning and pushed that to 5-1 in the third. Newton scored seven more in the bottom of the seventh for the 10-run rule victory.

Newton had 13 hits in the game led by Isaac Flowers with a single, two doubles and three RBI, Owen Mahaffey with three singles, a double and two RBI, Ben Meinhart with three singles and three RBI and Gage Reynolds with a double and an RBI.

Brandon Einhorn went the distance allowing one run on six hits, one walk and striking out two.

CHBC had six hits led by Gage Lorton with a single and double.

At Newton
