The Hearts struck early, taking a 2-0 first inning lead. An error scored two runs for the Hearts.
EHS then added on a run in the second before Altamont tallied a run in the third. The Hearts came back with two in the bottom of the frame.
Altamont made a comeback bid in the sixth inning with two runs but couldn't make up the early Hearts lead.
Brayden Pals got the win for Effingham, going 3.1 innings,allowing one run on two hits, three walks and seven strikeouts.
Kaiden Nichols and Gauge Massey entered the game out of the bullpen and helped close out the game in relief. Massey recorded the last four outs to earn the save.
Both teams had five hits and two errors. EHS was led by Max Hardiek with a double and an RBI and Massey with a triple. Colton Loy had a single and drove in a run.
Altamont was led by Mason Robinson with three singles and an RBI.

At Bethany
Brownstown/St. Elmo edged Okaw Valley, 4-3 in a Friday contest.
Neither team scored through the first four innings. BSE then struck in the top of the fifth, driving in three runs. Okaw Valley came back in the bottom of the sixth to tie the score.
BSE's Dalton Myers hit the go-ahead solo home run in the top of the seventh and that proved to be the winner.
BSE had seven hits in the contest led by Myers with a double, home run and two RBI, Kevin Hall with a single, double and an RBI and Brady Maxey and Jarrett Pasley with a double each. Wyatt Chandler had a double and an RBI.
Brownstown/St. Elmo is now 1-1 on the season and returns to action Tuesday against Neoga.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg ended its contest against Cerro Gordo in the fifth inning Saturday by the 10-run rule, 11-0.
Samuel Vonderheide threw a one-hitter for the win. Vonderheide went three innings, allowing one walk while striking out five.
Kendall Morris came on to throw the final two innings, not allowing a hit or walk while striking out six.
The Hatchets took a 4-0 first inning lead, added on six in the second and one in the third behind 11 hits.
Gavan Wernsing led the way offensively with a single, double, triple and an RBI. Jordan Wittenberg had a single, double and two RBI, Carter Chaney a double and an RBI and Graham Kasey with a single and two RBI and Vonderheide a single and an RBI.

South Central split victories Saturday against Breese Mater Dei and Vandalia.
The Cougars won over Vandalia by a 13-3 count in five innings.
The two teams were tied at 2-2 after the first inning. South Central moved ahead 3-2 in the second but Vandalia knotted the score in the top of the third. South Central then tallied three runs in the fhird, five in the fourth and two in the fifth to end the game via the 10-run rule.
South Central had 11 hits led by Max Magnus with two doubles and two RBI, Aiden Dodson with a three-run homer and Beau Jolliff with a two-run shot. Chase Thompson had two singles and an RBI while Anthony Buonaura had two singles.
South Central then fell to Breese Mater Dei, 15-5 in five innings.
Mater Dei ran off to a 7-2 opening inning lead and never looked back.
South Central had six hits in the contest led by Jolliff with a home run and two RBI. Magnus and Ethan Dunn had a single and an RBI each.

Effingham St. Anthony fell to Breese Central in a doubleheader Saturday.
The Cougars stepped out to a 5-0 opening inning lead then had a three-run fourth and a two-run sixth to blank the Bulldogs, 10-0 in the opener.
Breese Central had 11 hits while St. Anthony had two. The Bulldogs two hits were singles by Colton Fearday and Brody Niebrugge.
In the second contest, both teams had only three hits but Breese Central got the early lead and never let go in the 3-2 victory.
Central edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead. St. Anthony tied in the top of the second but the Cougars tallied two in the bottom of the frame. St. Anthony scored another run in the sixth but that was the end of the scoring.
Brock Fearday had two singles for the Bulldogs. Brock Jansen and Max Koenig had an RBI each.

North Clay (Louisville) defeated Carrollton 21-3 in four innings in game two of the North Clay Round Robin Saturday.
Carson Burkett picked up the win on the mound. The Cardinals are now 5-2 on the season and will be back in action today at Okaw Valley.
