Effingham Bests Centennial, 11-7

CHAMPAIGN -- Effingham High School bested Champaign Centennial by an 11-7 count Wednesday in baseball action.

The Hearts started off with a 3-1 first inning lead. The Chargers came back with two runs to knot the score in the second inning and moved ahead with a run in the third.

But the Hearts took the lead for good with four runs in the fourth inning. Quest Hull tripled on an 0-1 count, scoring one run. John Harper grounded out, scoring another run. Max Hardiek tripled on a 3-2 count and scored the third run and Myles Maxedon grounded out, scoring the fourth run for a 7-4 lead. Centennial then tallied a run in the bottom of the fourth.

Both teams scored two in the fifth and the Hearts added on two more in the seventh for the final 11-7 count.

The Hearts banged out 14 hits in the contest led by Harper with three singles and two RBI, Hull with a double, triple and two RBI, Christian Raddatz with a single, double and an RBI, Kaiden Nichols with three singles and Max Hardiek with a triple and an RBI.

Jackson Doedtman claimed the win on the mound. Doedtman came in for starter Josh McDevitt n the third inning after McDevitt had given up four runs. Doedtman went a total of one inning, allowing one run on one hit, no walks and two strikeouts. Andrew Donaldson threw 1.1 innings allowing two runs on two hits, no walks and two strikeouts. Kaiden Nichols finished out the game going 2.2 innings, allowing no runs on no hits, one walk and five strikeouts.
