Dieterich, Newton, Neoga Open Baseball Seasons With Losses

Dieterich High School opened the baseball season with a 16-3 loss at the hands of Lawrenceville Monday.

The Movin' Maroons took a 3-0 first inning lead. But Lawrenceville came back with two in the third and had a nine-run fourth and a five-run seventh.

Lawrenceville banged out 14 hits in the contest and was aided by three Dieterich errors.

Dieterich had two hits, singles by B. Shadle and L. Westendorf. P. Britton and S. Hardiek had an RBI each.

At Fairfield

Fairfield's M. Taylor kept the Newton Eagles off balance and picked up the 4-2 win on the mound Monday.

Taylor went five innings, allowing two runs on one hit, four walks while striking out 10. D. Best came on in relief in the sixth, allowng one hit while striking out three.

Fairfield took the early lead with two runs in the third. Newton came back to tie the score in the top of the fifth but the Mules quickly broke the tie with two in the bottom of the fifth for the 4-2 win.

Fairfield had six hits and was aided by three Newton errors.

C. Reich had a double and drove in both runs for the Eagles. M. Meinhart had a single.

Neoga traveled to Marshall and fell in a 5-0 contest Monday.

Kaden Young went one for three for Neoga. Luke Romack picked up the pitching loss.
