Sacred Heart, Teutopolis Advance To State

Effingham Sacred Heart shut out Effingham St. Anthony, 7-0 to win the Class 1A North Clay Sectional Baseball championship Saturday.

Austin Borries went all seven innings keeping the Bullpups to two hits for the win on the mound.

Sacred Heart scored in the first on a Borries home run. The Shamrocks never looked back as they pounded three more home runs. Borries hit a second shot and had three RBI while Jude Traub and William Hecht had one home run each and two RBI. Oliver Kreke had a single.

St. Anthony's two hits were by Henry Brent and Will Bierman with a single each.

Sacred Heart (13-3) will now face Royal Prairieview Ogden at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Eastside Centre in East Peoria.

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis played host to a Class 2A sectional and came out the champion Saturday.

The Wooden Shoes defeated Lawrenceville Parkview, 7-0 in seven innings and improved to 14-3 on the season.

T-town took a 2-0 first inning lead then had single runs in the second and third and finished out with three in the seventh.

Jason Kreke led the way for the Shoes with a double, home run and three RBI. Landyn Thoele had a single and two RBI and Ben Grunloh an RBI.

Gavin Addis allowed one hit, two walks while striking out 13 in five innings.

T-town will head to the Class 2A State Touranment Friday at Eastside Centre in East Peoria and will face Kankakee Bishop McNamara (15-0) at 2:30 p.m.
