MULBERRY GROVE -- Brownstown/St. Elmo edged Mulberry Grove, 12-9 in high school baseball action Wednesday.

Mulberry Grove took a 2-0 lead in the second inning and led 3-1 after three. BSE tied in the top of the fourth and moved ahead 9-3 in the fifth and pushed that to 12-3 in the sixth. But Mulberry Grove came roaring back with six runs in the bottom of the seventh only to fall short.

BSE had only five hits compared to 11 for Mulberry Grove. Brady Maxey led the way with a single, double and two RBI while Dalton Myers had two RBI. Adam Atwood, Wyatt Chandler and Cade Schaub had a single and an RBI each.

BSE improves to 1-0 in the Egyptian-Illini Conference, 5-2 overall and won't return to action until Tuesday at South Central.
