BEECHER CITY -- South Central came calling and handed Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City a 13-1 loss in junior high baseball competition Monday.

The two teams were tied at 1-1 in the first inning before South Central broke loose with five runs then had one in the fourth and finished the game with six in the fifth.

South Central had eight hits led by C. Guerrettaz with a single, double and an RBI, T. Sidwell with two singles and two RBI, R. Dodson with two singles and two RBI, G. Shumate with two singles and an RBI and R. Boyd with two singles.

CHBC was led by Cosart with a double.

G. Shumate threw a three-hitter with six walks and four strikeouts for the win. South Central improved to 3-0.

CHBC dropped to 1-2 on the season and 0-1 in the National Trail Conference.

At Teutopolis

In a B contest, Teutopolis claimed a 7-5 win over Newton St. Thomas Monday.

T-town knocked in four runs in the bottom of the second to take a 4-0 lead. St. Thomas answered with three runs in the top of the third and one in the fourth. It was a seesaw battle from there but the Shoes gave up only one run in the top of the seventh and the Saints stranded two runners on second and third.

Wade Ochs led the Saints with singles while Gier drove in a pair. Quincy Fulton came on in relief the final four innings and only gave up one hit. The Saints drop to 0-1 and return home Tuesday to take on Palestine.
