Cardinals Hitting, Pitching Downs Cubs, 8-3

ST. LOUIS -- Back-to-back home runs and strong pitching led St. Louis to an 8-3 victory over the Chicago Cubs Monday night.

Dylan Carlson and Paul Goldschmidt hit back-to-back home runs in the sixth inning with St. Louis already leading 5-1. The Cardinals tallied a run in the third then scored four in the fourth and three in the sixth.

With the Cardinals leading 1-0 going into the fourth, they pushed their lead to 5-0. Carlson tallied an RBI when he was issued a walk by Cubs pitcher Alec Mills with the bases loaded. Goldschmidt hit a bases-loaded infield single and his hitting streak is now 14 games. Also in the inning, the Cubs' Javier Baez made two straight errors.

Harrison Bader and Yadier Molina had two singles each for the Cardinals.

Jake Woodford, just recalled from Triple-A Memphis, got out of a bases-loaded, no-out jam in the fifth and finished the contest going 5.2 innings, allowing one run, no walks while striking out six for the win.

Patrick Wisdom provided the lone spark for the Cubs when he hit a solo shot in the seventh. Anthony Rizzo finished wth a single and double and Willson Contreras with a double. Rafael Ortega had two singles.
