Chad Green Throws "Immaculate Inning"

Chad Green threw an "immaculate inning" against the New York Mets Sunday, July 4

Green, an Effingham High School graduate and pitching for the New York Yankees, came on in relief in the ninth. He threw nine pitches in the Yankees win over the Mets. It was three up and three down, with all three batters striking out on three pitches each.

The record book lists the "immaculate inning" as not quite as rare as it once was. There were eight in 2017. This year, Green's was only the third one as Michael King, a teammate of Green's, threw one June 4 and Kyle Finnegan of the Nationals threw one May 5.

Green is now the 104th pitcher in Major League history to throw an "immaculate inning".

Green has pitched in 34 innings this season and has a 3-4 record with two saves. He has 46 strikeouts. He's given up 13 runs, 11 earned, allowing 24 hits and eight walks.
