Four Cubs Pitchers Combine For No-Hitter,

Chicago Cubs starter Zach Davies and three relievers -- Ryan Tepera, Andrew Chafin and Craig Kimbrel -- teamed up on a combined no-hitter Thursday night against the Los Angeles Dodgers, winning 4-0.

Davies, who improved to 5-4 on the season, went six innings, giving up five walks. He threw 94 pitches.

Tepera and Chafin went an inning each. Kimbrel then came on to finish out the ninth. He gave up a lead-off walk but he came back to strike out Cody Bellinger, Albert Pujols and Will Smith to finish off the no-hitter. It was the 17th in the Cubs' history.

It was the seventh no-hitter in Major League Baseball this season, tying the record for most in a season since 1900. 

Javier Baez homered in the contest while Willson Contreras knocked out a two-run shot in the sixth.

 

Pirates 8, Cardinals 2

Pittsburgh got its first victory over the  Cardinals since September 18, 2020 Thursday.

The Pirates' Bryan Reynolds had three hits in the contest including a three-run home run. Also putting the ball over the fence were Adam Frazier and Phillip Evans.

Chad Kuhl went six innings to improve to 2-4 on the season, allowing three hits.

The Cardinals had a total of four hits, all singles, by Dylan Carlson with two, Tommy Edman and Lars Nootbaar one each. Nootbaar also had an RBI.
