South Central Downs Okaw Valley, Heads To Title Contest

KINMUNDY -- South Central took another step forward with a 7-2 victory over Okaw Valley in the Class 1A Baseball Sectional Wednesday.

The two teams went scoreless through the first two innings before the Cougars tallied three runs. South Central held a 4-2 lead in the fifth then added on three more runs in the seventh.

South Central had three-hit pitching by Aiden Dodson and Spencer Johannes. Dodson was the winner, going 5.1 innings allowing two runs on two hits, nine walks and striking out nine. Johannes came on to keep Okawville under control, allowing one hit, three walks and three strikeouts.

The Cougars had a nine-hit attack. A. Dodson had an all-around good day with the win on the mound and knocking out a single, two doubles and driving in four runs. Chase Dodson chipped in with a single and double. Sebastian Cowger had a single and drove in two runs. Brandt Hiestand had an RBI.

South Central will now meet North Clay (Louisville) at 4:30 p.m. Friday for the sectional championship and the right to advance to the Carbondale Super-Sectional Monday at 4 p.m. The winner of the super-sectional will head to the Class 1A State Tournament at Illinois State University in Normal June 17 at 1 p.m.

North Clay blanked Cumberland, 3-0.
