South Central Hands Altamont Loss For Regional B Crown

KINMUNDY -- South Central High School scored quick and kept Altamont off balance for a 10-5 victory to win the Class 1A Regional B baseball crown Monday.

The Cougars tallied five in the first and four in the second on their way to the win. South Central held a 9-1 lead until the fifth when Altamont scored a run. But the Cougars came back with a run in the bottom of the frame.

The Indians rallied in the top of the seventh but had dug themselves too big a hole and could score only three runs for the final 10-5 count.

South Central was outhit 8-6 but Altamont committed four errors and gave up six walks in the contest.

Beau Jolliff was the big hitter for the Cougars. He rapped out a grand slam home run in the first and scored an RBI on a fielder's choice in the second. He finished with five RBI. Sam Rubin had a double. Sebastian Cowger had two singles while Andrew Magnus had a single and an RBI.

Chase Dodson went 3.2 innings, allowing one run on two hits, three walks and striking out six.

Jared Hammer went long twice in the contest. He hit a solo shot in the second and a three-run homer in the seventh. Mason Robinson had two singles while Hayden Siebert added a double. Altamont finished with a 20-9 record for the season.

South Central (21-3) advances to Class 1A Sectional action Wednesday. The Cougars travel to Bethany Okaw Valley for a 4:30 p.m. contest.

Okaw Valley had defeated Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond, 4-0.
