T-town, N. Clay, Cumberland Advance To Regional Title Games

Teutopolis will be playing for the Class 2A, Regional A baseball championship today, weather permitting, after claiming a victory Friday.

The Wooden Shoes blanked Salem, 10-0 in five innings Friday. T-town took a 3-0 opening inning lead, scored single runs in the second and fourth around five in the fifth.

Andy Niebrugge threw a three-hitter, allowing three walks and striking out 11.

Kayden Althoff had two singles, a triple and drove in three runs for the Shoes while Derek Konkel had a single, double and three RBI. Derek Deters had a triple and two RBI while Sam Bushur added a double. Evan Addis finished with two singles.

The Wooden Shoes (20-9) will play host to Greenville today at 4:30 p.m. for the regional championship. Greenville downed Flora, 13-8.

Class 1A Regional A

North Clay/Clay City handed Dieterich an 11-2 loss to advance to the championship Friday.

The Cardinals stepped out to a 3-0 first inning lead then had a two-run second and led 6-2 after four. A single run crossed the plate in the fifth and four more in the sixth.

North Clay/Clty City was led in hitting by Carson Burkett and Collyn Ballard with two doubles each. Burkett drove in two runs and Ballard had one RBI. Donnie Zimmerman also had a hot bat with three singles and four RBI. Dakota Teague added a double. Holden Clifton had a single and an RBI and Dakota Weidner an RBI.

Zimmerman went the distance throwing a three-hitter, not allowing a walk and stirking out nine.

Dieterich had three hits led by Matthew Hunzinger with a single, home run and an RBI and Noah Dill had a single.

North Clay/Clay City travels to Effingham St. Anthony for the regional championship today, weather permitting, at 4:30 p.m. Listen to the game on 979 XFM.

Class 1A Regional D

Cumberland edged Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg to advance to the championship game of the Class 1A Regional D.

The Pirates tallied a single run in the fourth and tacked on the second run in the sixth.

Cumberland was led by Shew with a solo home run, Hemmen and Cutts with a double each and Hendrix with a single that drove in a run.

Shew picked up the pitching win, going 5.2 innings, allowing six hits, three walks while striking out 14.

WSS was led by Sam Vonderheide with a double and Austin Wittenberg with two singles.

Gavin Wernsing was the tough-luck losing pitcher, going six ininngs, allowing two runs on five hits, four walks and 11 strikeouts.

Cumberland will now travel to Neoga Monday to face the Indians at 4:30 p.m. for the regional championship. Neoga downed Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, 7-3
