EHS Baseball Season Comes To Close

Despite some outstanding pitching, Effingham High School fell to Mattoon by a 1-0 count in Class 3A Regional C baseball action to see its season come to a close Thursday.

The Hearts' Jackson Lee suffered the tough-luck loss, registering 19 outs in the contest. But Mattoon had five hits and scored the lone run in the bottom of the seventh.

The Green Wave's Meade Johnson provided a double that scored the winning run. Austin Baker finished with a single and double while Zachary Wetzel and Cooper Bergstrom had a single each.

Johnson was the winning pitcher allowing no runs on two hits, no walks while striking out 11.

The Hearts had two hits, singles by Jack Blickem and Max Hardiek.

Lee went the distance allowing one run on five hits, three walks while striking out five.
