Dieterich Edges St. A, WSS, S. Central, Altamont Nab Baseball Wins

Dieterich High School handed Effingham St. Anthony a rare loss in baseball action Tuesday.

The Movin' Maroons ran out to a 7-2 opening inning lead on the Bulldogs and tacked on single runs in the second and sixth. St. Anthony came back with four in the fifth and two in the seventh but couldn't make up that opening inning run by Dieterich.

Matthew Hunzinger and Pete Britton were the big hitters for the Maroons. Hunzinger had a single, a home run and two RBI while Britton had three singles and knocked in three runs. Garrett Niebrugge added two singles and an RBI. 

Dalton Will picked up the victory on the mound, going 4.1 innings, allowing three runs on five hits, one walk and striking out three. Three more pitchers came in to keep the Maroons on track.

St. Anthony was led by Kennan Walsh with a double, home run and four RBI while Angelo Mendella added a double, Will Hoene two singles and three RBI and Logan Antrim two singles.

The Bulldogs drop to 16-5 on the season.

At Beecher City

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg had eight hits and Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City committed fouir errors as the Hatchets claimed a 4-0 victory Tuesday.

WSS tallied two in the second and scored single runs in the fourth and sixth innings.

The Hatchets were led by Austin Wittenberg with two singles while Rhett Rincker had a single and drove in a run and Brody Beals had an RBI. Five other players had a single each.

CHBC was led by Gage Lorton with a double.

Graham Kasey was the winning pitcher. Kasey went three innings, did not give up a hit, had one walk and struck out seven.

At Beecher City

At Louisville

South Central had nine hits, four for extra bases, in beating North Clay (Louisville), 4-1 in Tuesday action.

The Cougars' Chase and Aiden Dodson knocked out a single and a solo home run each while Beau Jollliff had two singles, a double and an RBI and Chase Thompson a double.

A. Dodson was the winning pitcher going three innings, allowing no runs on one hit, two walks and four strikeouts.

South Central led 2-0 after the first inning and had a two-run fifth. North Clay's run came in the fourth.

The Cardinals had two singles, both by Carson Burkett.

At Altamont

Altamont struck early and went on to down Neoga, 5-1 Tuesday.

Altamont tallied two in the first inning. Neoga pulled within 2-1 in the third but Altamont had single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.

Brennyn Abendroth was the winning pitcher. He went 3.1 innings allowing one run, two walks and striking out eight. Aden McManaway came on for 1.2 innings allowing the lone Neoga hit.

Kaden Eirhart had three singles while Brayden Stuemke had a double and drove in a run. Mason Robinson had a single and two RBI while Jared Hammer had a single and an RBI.

The lone hit for Neoga came from Nate Lacy with a single.

At Altamont

At Brownstown

Brownstown/St. Elmo stayed close to Casey-Westfield until the sixth inning. Casey-Westfield led 3-2 then broke the game wide open with a 10-run sixth and ended the game via the 10-run rule, 13-2 Tuesday.

BSE pitchers allowed seven hits but the big scoring came from eight errors.

David Stine, Adam Atwood, Kevin Hall, Wyatt Forbes and Lukas Miller had a single each for BSE. Forbes had an RBI. BSE drops to 8-11 on the season.

At Brownstown
