Shoes Sweep Hearts, Area Baseball Roundup

Teutopolis High School swept Effingham in a high school baseball doubleheader Saturday.

The Wooden Shoes claimed the opener 3-2 as both teams were strong on the mound but T-town was a little bit stronger.

Evan Addis went 5.1 innings, allowing two runs on three hits, one walk while striking out nine for the Shoes. Andy Niebrugge came in to finish out going 1.2 innings, allowing no runs on no hits, three walks and two strikeouts.

The Hearts opened the first with a run on a solo shot by Jackson Lee. But the Shoes came right back in the bottom half of the inning as Evan Wermert doubled home a run.

T-town then had a two-run third to move ahead 3-1. The Hearts tallied in the top of the fifth but couldn't get over the hump.

Niebrugge had two of the Shoes' four hits with two singles and drove in two runs.

Lee led the Hearts with two doubles, a home run and drove in two.

In the second game, the Wooden Shoes again outhit the Hearts, this time by a 9-7 count.

T-town struck again in the first inning with a run. The Hearts moved ahead in the top of the third by a 2-1 count. But the Shoes came right back, scoring four runs in the bottom of the frame. The Hearts pulled within 5-4 in the top of the fifth but again the Shoes came right back with two in the bottom of the frame then held the Hearts to one run the rest of the way for the 7-5 victory.

T-town (19-8) had nine hits led by Hayden Ruholl with a single, double and two RBI, Wermert two singles and two RBI and A. Niebrugge with a double. Cade Buehnerkemper had a single and drove in a run.

The Hearts (11-11) were led by Lee with a single, double and three RBI, Dylan Cunningham with two singles and an RBI and Max Hadiek with a single and an RBI.

In a freshman/sophomore contest, Teutopolis blanked Effingham, 4-0. The Shoes had a three-run first and tacked on a final run in the fifth.

Waldhoff had three singles, Bloemer two singles and Ca. Siemer two singles and an RBI.

Effingham was led by Bushue and Nichols with a single each.

At Altamont

Altamont and Vandalia split a doubleheader in Saturday action.

Kaden Eirhart shut down Vandalia in the opener, throwing a complete game shutout for a 6-0 win.

The Indians had two run innings in the first, third and fifth. Eirhart went all seven innings, allowing five hits, no walks and striking out 13.

Altamont had eight hits led by Mason Robinson with three singles and two RBI, Kienon Eirhart with two singles and an RBI, Jared Hammer with a double and Logan Cornett with a single and two RBI.

In the second game, Vandalia edged Altamont 9-7. The Vandals led 9-3 after five innings. Altamont came back with one in the sixth and three in the bottom of the seventh.

Altamont had 10 hits led by Lucas Shepard with two singles and a double, Nathan Shepard with a single and triple, Eirhart with two singles and Noah Klimpel with two singles and an RBI.

At Salem

South Central pounded out 10 hits and tallied a 13-6 win over Salem in Saturday competition.

The Cougars took a 2-0 lead in the second inning then added on seven in the third and two in the fourth to lead 11-5. South Central tallied two more in the seventh.

Aiden Dodson had a single, double and three RBI whiel Chase Thompson had a single, double and two RBI for the Cougars. Sebastian Cowger added two singles and an RBI.

A. Dodson picked up the win on the mound, going three innings,allowing no runs on no hits, no walks while striking out five.
