MULBERRY GROVE -- South Central took advantage of eight hits and 10 walks to hand Mulberry Grove an 8-1 loss in high school baseball competition Tuesday.

The Cougars' Sebastian Cowger provided a single, double and drove in a run while Aiden Dodson had a double and two RBI. Beau Jolliff added a single and also had two RBI.

Three Mulberry Grove pitchers provided 10 walks.

Brandt Hiestand went 3.1 innings for the Cougars' win on the mound. He allowed one run on four hits, one walk and seven strikeouts.

At Hutsonville

Neoga struck early with seven runs in the first and never looked back in an 11-1 win over Hutsonville/Palestine in five innings Tuesday.

The Indians had 11 hits to go along with those 11 runs. Luke Romack banged out two doubles and drove in a run while Adam Fearday had a single, double and two RBI, Isaac Walk and Nate Lacy a single, double and an RBI each and Kaden Young two singles and two RBI.

Will O'Dell went three innings, allowing no runs on one hit, two walks and three strikeouts.

At Brownstown

Newton stepped out with three runs in the first inning and went on to claim an 8-1 victory over Brownstown/St. Elmo Tuesday.

The Eagles had 11 hits and were aided by four BSE errors.

Ben Meinhart had three singles for the winners while Jake Rice had a single and double and Ross Farley a double. Newton improved to 12-9.

BSE had singles from Jace McWhorter, Adam Atwood, Wyatt Chandler and Wyatt Stine. BSE falls to 8-10 on the season.

At Mattoon

Teutopolis suffered a doubleheader loss to Mattoon in Apollo Conference action Tuesday.

The Wooden Shoes fell in the opener, 8-5 despite having a slight 8-7 edge in hits.

The Green Wave took a 5-2 opening inning lead and led 6-1 after three. T-town mounted a comeback to pull within 6-5 in the fourth but the Green Wave added two more in the sixth.

Mitch Althoff had a single, double and an RBI for the Shoes while Evan Addis had two singles and two RBI and Derek Konkel a double and an RBI.

In the second contest, T-town edged out to a 2-0 first inning lead but Mattoon came back with four runs in the second and six in the third to take a 10-5 victory.

Mattoon had only four hits compared to seven for the Shoes but were aided by eight T-town errors.

Max Niebrugge had a single, triple and an RBI while Evan Wermert had two singles and an RBI and Brayden Gaddis a single and an RBI.

The Shoes fall to 3-3 in the Apollo Conference, 16-8 overall. Mattoon improves to 5-1 in the conference, 12-6 overall.

In freshman/sophomore action, T-town edged Mattoon, 7-6. The Shoes broke a 1-1 tie with three runs in the fifth. Mattoon moved ahead 6-5 in the top of the seventh and the Shoes won it with two in the bottom of the frame.

T-town had nine hits led by Ca. Siemer with a single, double and an RBI, B. Goeckner with two singles and two RBI , G. Gaddis wth a double and an RBI and B. Kreke with two singles.

In a Monday contest, T-town downed Neoga, 8-2 in frosh/soph action.

The Shoes were led in hitting by G. Gaddis with two singles, J. Hille, T. Pruemer, C. Hoelscher, D. Kreke and M. Koester with a single and two RBI each.

At Pana

Pana played host to Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg and handed the visitors a 9-7 loss Tuesday.

The Panthers edged out to a 3-0 opening inning lead but WSS came back to move ahead with six runs in the top of the second and led 7-5 after four. Pana came back with one in the fifth and won it with three in the sixth.

WSS had six hits led by Jordan Wittenberg with a double and Gavan Wernsing with two singles and two RBI.

Pana was led by Bryce Bieber with two singles, two doubles and five RBI. He also picked up the pitching with going 5.1 innings, allowing one run on three hits, two walks and a strikeout.
