Altamont Edges St. A; Shoes, Cougars, Hatchets, Indians Win

The score was knotted at 4-4 through five innings before Altamont High School broke free with two runs and then held off an Effingham St. Anthony challenge to win 6-5 in baseball action Monday.

 

Despite outhitting the Indians, St. Anthony committed six errors in the game.

Altamont made its five hits count. Mason Robinson connected on a single and finished with three RBI. Bradin Baucum had two singles and Kienon Eirhart had a dobule. Nathan Stuemke added a single.

Ethan Robbins, a freshman, picked up the pitching win on the mound, going one inning, allowing one run on two hits and one walk. Aden McManaway, another freshman, started the game and went five innings, allowing four runs on five hits, three walks and two strikeouts.

St. Anthony was led by Eli Moore with a single and double, Eli Link with a single and two RBI and Seth Hotze with a double and an RBI. The Bulldogs drop to 14-4 on the season.

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis leaped out to a 5-0 first inning lead and went on to beat Mahomet-Seymour, 13-3 in six innings Monday.

The Wooden Shoes' bats were on fire with 15 hits in the contest. Derek Konkel had a three-hit game with two singles, a home run and four RBI while Andy Niebrugge had a single, home run and four RBI. Kayden Althoff, Evan Wermert and Mitch Althoff had a double each. Wermert drove in one run while Althoff had two. Dylan Pruemer and Logan Roepke added two singles each.

A. Niebrugge went five innings, giving up three runs on four hits, two walks and striking out three for the win on the mound. He now sports a 3-1 record.

The Wooden Shoes are now 16-6 on the season. They return to action today at Mattoon for a doubleheader.

At Kinmundy

South Central took the early lead and never looked back in an 11-4 win over Dieterich Monday.

The Cougars held a 5-0 lead after the first inning and finished with a 10-hit attack.

Sam Rubin banged out two singles, a home run and drove in a run. Chase Dodson had a single, a home run and two RBI. Sebastian Cowger had a single and three RBI while Beau Jolliff had a single and two RBI.

Dieterich was led by Matthew Hunzinger with a solo homer and Garrett Niebrugge with two singles.

Aiden Dodson went 3.1 innings, allowing one run on two hits, one walk and four strikeouts for the win.

At Kinmundy

Kaden Young threw a one-hitter to lead Neoga to a 9-0 victory over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Monday.

Young finished with two walks and six strikeouts. Meanwhile, the Indians talied a run in the second then broke the game wide open with an eight-run third.

There were several hitting stars for the Indians. Adam Fearday led the way with three singles and two RBI while Isaac Walk had a single and double, Kaden Young two singles and two RBI and Treyton Vaughn a double and an RBI.

CHBC's lone hit was a single by Silas Buzzard.

At Neoga

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg stepped out to a 4-0 opening inning lead and went on to finish this contest in five innings over Brownstown/St. Elmo, 14-3 Monday.

WSS had 13 hits in the contest. Jordan Wittenberg went three for three with a single, double and home run. Wetherell had two doubles and Gavan Wernsing a double. Samuel Vonderheide and Kasey had two singles each.

Sayers picked up the win on the mound, going five innings, allowing seven hits, three walks while striking out seven.

BSE was led by Brady Maxey with a home run and two RBI, Adam Atwood with two doubles and Mace McWhorter with a double. BSE dropped to 8-9 and is back in action today against Newton.
