EHS, T-town Drop Doubleheaders; Neoga, BSE, Altamont Win

Effingham High School dropped an Apollo Conference baseball doubleheader to Mattoon Saturday.

The Hearts fell in the opener 4-1. EHS took a 1-0 first inning lead but Mattoon came back with two in the second and third innings for the victory.

EHS had five hits in the game, all singles by Joe Matteson, Jackson Lee, Gauge Massey, Gabe Eaton and Max Nelson.

In the second game, the Hearts led most of the way until Mattoon scored five in the sixth and three in the seventh to pull out a 14-13 win.

The Green Wave led 4-3 after two innings but the Hearts came back with two in the fourth and led 13-6 after five.

Lee had a single, double and two RBI for the Hearts while Matteson had a single, triple and an RBI. Dylan Cunningham and Quest Hull had two singles and an RBI each. Josh McDevitt, Christian Raddatz and Preston Latch finished with an RBI each.

At Mount Zion

Teutopolis ran into Mount Zion and dropped an Apollo Conference doubleheader Saturday.

In the opener, Mount Zion claimed a 4-2 victory despite having only one hit in the contest.

The Wooden Shoes held a 2-0 lead until the fifth when Mount Zion scored all four runs.

T-town had eight hits but committed five errors and gave up four walks. Evan Wermert led the way for the Shoes with two singles and a double while Sam Bushur had two singles and drove in both runs.

In the second game, the Braves came from behind in the bottom of the seventh to pull out a 7-6 win.

Mount Zion led 3-0 after the opening inning. T-town came back with one in the second and the score was tied at 5-5 after the sixth. T-town moved ahead 6-5 in the top of the seventh only to see Mount Zion win the game in the bottom of the frame.

T-town had a slight 7-6 hitting edge. Cade Buehnerkemper had two singles and an RBI for the Shoes while Bushur and Dylan Pruemer had a single and two RBI each.

At Neoga

Neoga pounded out 13 hits and tallied 15 runs, 10 coming in the sixth inning, to beat Tri-County/Shiloh/Oakland, 15-2 Friday.

The Indians trailed 2-1 after the first ininng but had a three-run second and a five-run fifth before the big sixth.

Nate Lacy had two home runs and seven RBI for Neoga while Isaac Walk had a single, two home runs and three RBI. Adam Fearday added a double, home run and three RBI and Will O'Dell finished with a double.

Alex Ramert was the winning pitcher, going six innings, allowing two runs on two hits, one walk and striking out three.

At Neoga

At Ramsey

Ramsey moved ahead in the first inning 2-0 and led 3-1 after four. But Brownstown/St. Elmo got back on track with a three-run fifth and a three-run sixth for a 7-4 victory Friday.

Both teams had eight hits in the game. Adam Atwood and Wyatt Chandler led the winners with a single and double each. Atwood had an RBI. Brady Maxey had a single and two RBI.

BSE improved its record to 7-6.

At Robinson

Altamont came out the winner over Robinson in a Friday contest, 9-5.

The Indians moved ahead 2-1 in the opening frame and led 4-3 after four. Robinson tied in the fifth but Altamont came back with a three-run sixth and scored two in the seventh.

Altamont had 11 hits in the contest as Kienan Eirhart had two singles, a double and drove in a run while Jared Hammer had a double, triple and an RBI, Mason Robinson a double and three RBI and Noah Klimpel a double and an RBI. Brayden Stuemke had two singles.

Robinson was the winner on the mound going five innings, allowling four runs on five hits, four walks with nine strikeouts. Stuemke came on to finish out the last two innings, allowing one run on one hit, no walks and four strikeouts.

At Flora

Flora handed South Central a 5-2 loss in Saturday competition.

The Wolves scored single runs in the second, thrid and fourth innings and two in the fifth. South Central's two runs came in the sixth.

Both teams had six hits and two errors. South Central was led by Sebastin Cowger with two singles and a double and Chase Thompson with a double and an RBI.
