T-town Edges Altamont, Baseball Roundup

Teutopolis High School tallied the winning run in the bottom of the seventh for a 6-5 victory over Altamont in baseball action Thursday.

The Indians held a 2-0 lead in the second inning and moved that to 3-0 in the third. T-town came back with two in the fifth and moved ahead 5-3 in the sixth. Altamont then knotted the score in the top of the seventh. The Wooden Shoes claimed the win in the bottom of the frame.

Both teams had eight hits and two errors in the contest.

Evan Addis had a single, double and drove in a run while Dylan Pruemer had a double and an RBI. Sam Bushur had a single and two RBI while Logan Roepke had a single and an RBI.

Leading in the hitting department for Altamont were Brennyn Abendroth with two singles and a double, Brayden Stuemke with a single and two RBI and Tyler Robbins and Bradin Baucum with a single and an RBI each. Wyatt Phillips also had an RBI.

Derek Deters was the winner on the mound, going the final inning, with one walk. The Shoes improved to 12-2 on the season while Altamont fell to 12-4.

T-town is back in action Saturday at Mount Zion for an Apollo Conference doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m. Altamont returns to play Saturday at Robinson.

In freshman/sophomore action, Teutopolis blanked Newton, 5-0.

The Wooden Shoes held a 3-0 opening inning lead then added on single runs in the second and third.

T-town had seven hits led by E. Waldhoff, B. Goeckner, T. Schwerdt and B. Thompson with a double each. Goeckner had three RBI while Schwerdt had one.

Newton was led by Nichols, McClure and Lewis with a single each.

At Dieterich

With 11 hits, Dieterich tallied 10 runs to hand Red Hill (Bridgeport) a 10-3 loss Thursday.

The Movin' Maroons' Matthew Hunzinger was the hitting star with two singles, a home run and six RBI while Dalton Will and Pete Britton had two doubles each. Will drove in a run. Austin Ruholl and Garrett Niebrugge had two singles each. Ruholl drove in a run.

Dieterich led 9-0 after four innings then tacked on a final run in the sixth.

Hunzinger went four innings, allowing no runs on one hit, one walk while striking out nine.

At Benton

South Central traveled to Benton and came home with a 9-5 win over the host squad Thursday.

The Cougars tallied two runs in the second, third and fifth innings and single runs in the fourth, sixth and seventh.

South Central had 10 hits led by Beau Jolliff with a double, home run and three RBI, Chase Thompson with three singles and an RBI and Chase Dodson with a single, double and an RBI. Sebastian Cowger and Hunter Cripe had a single and an RBI each while Sam Rubin added an RBI.

C. Dodson picked up the pitching victory going four inings, allowing two runs on four hits, one walk and six strikeouts.

At Newton

Newton edged  Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, 3-2 in action Thursday.

All the scoring came in the first two innings. CHBC took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first before Newton tied in the bottom of the frame. The Eagles then scored the go-ahead run in the second.

William Geier had two singles and an RBI for the Eagles while Aaron Einhorn, Jake Rice and Ross Farley had a double each. Rice added an RBI.

Farley was the winning pitcher going all seven innings, allowing two runs on five hits, no walks and three strikeouts.

The Bobcats' Mason Manley led with a single and a solo homer while Quaid Schlanser had a triple.
