T-town Edges S. Central, Dieterich Claims No-Hitter, St. A Suffers First Loss, Area Baseball Roundup

KINMUNDY -- Teutopolis High School came from behind to edge South Central, 5-4 Monday in baseball action.

The Wooden Shoes stepped out to a 3-0 opening inning lead on the Cougars. But South Central tallied two in the fourth and moved ahead with two in the fifth.

T-town then tallied two in the top of the seventh for the win.

Evan Wermert had the only extra base hit for the Shoes with a double and drove in two runs. Andy Niebrugge had two singles and two RBI. Evan Addis added an RBI.

South Central was led by Beau Jolliff with a home run and two RBI. Chase Dodson had two singles and an RBI while Sebastian Cowger added two singles. Chase Thompson had a single and an RBi.

Winning pitcher for the Shoes was Derek Konkel, throwing the final 2.2 innings allowing one hit, four walks while striking out five.

The Shoes improved to 11-3 on the spring while South Central dropped to 7-2.

Both teams are back in action today. T-town is at Lincoln while South Central hosts Webber Township (Bluford).

At Kinmundy

At St. Anthony

Effingham St. Anthony played host to Charleston and fell victim, 8-5 Monday in its first loss of the season.

The Trojans stepped out to a 6-0 lead in the third inning then added on two in the fourth.

The Bulldogs came to life in the bottom of the seventh, scoring five runs but had dug themselves too deep a hole in the third and fourth innings.

Eli Levitt had a single, double and an RBI for the Bulldogs while Will Hoene had a double and an RBI. Logan Antrim finished with a single and an RBI while Eli Link had an RBI.

The Bulldogs drop to 11-1 on the season.

At Hutsonville

Dieterich's Garrett Niebrugge and Seth Bushur combined to throw a no-hitter as Dieterich blanked Hutsonville/Palestine, 12-0 in five innings Monday.

Niebrugge went three innings with two walks and five strikeouts for the win. Bushur came on two finish out the final two innings, allowing one walk while stirking out one.

The Movin' Maroons stepped out to a 4-0 first inning lead then added on two in the second, five in the third and one in the fifth.

Bushur led the hitting charge with a single, two doubles, a home run and three RBI while Dalton Will added two singles and two doubles, Matthew Hunzinger a double, home run and two RBI and Austin Ruholl two singles, a double and two RBI.

At Hutsonville

At Sauget

Brownstown/St. Elmo and Mulberry Grove played at GCS Ballpark in Sauget Monday with BSE winning in six innings, 13-3.

BSE had one hit less than Mulberry Grove with four but the Bombers drove in runs with their hits. Adam Atwood had a single, double and three RBI while Jace McWhorter had a triple and three RBI. Also with an RBI was David Stine and Lukas Miller as Mulberry Grove gave up nine walks.

BSE and Mulberry Grove were tied at 1-1 after the first inning before the Bombers put together a two-run second and a four-run third.

Brownstown/St. Elmo moved above the .500 mark with a 6-5 record and is back in action today against Altamont.

Altamont High School blanked Martinsville, 13-0 in six innings Monday.

The Indians edged out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning then added on a run in the third and had five-run innings in the fifth and sixth.

Altamont had eight hits led by Mason Winn with a single, home run and four RBI, Kaidyn MIller and Ethan Robbins a double and an RBI each and Nathan Shepard with a double. Dillan Elam and Riley Berg had a single and drove in a run each.

Martinsville finished with seven errors in the contest and six walks.

Aden McManaway threw five innings allowing two hits, no walks and striking out six for the win on the mound.

Neoga and Mattoon played to a 2-2 opening inning tie but the Green Wave got going with a four-run second, then tacked on two in the ffith and five in the sixth for a 13-4 victory.

The Green Wave had 16 hits in the contest.

Neoga was led by Luke Romack with a single, double and two RBI. Kaden Young had three singles. Will O'Dell and Isaac Walk had a single and drove in a run each.

Meade Johnson led the Green Wave with a single, two doubles and six RBI. Cooper Bergstrom added a single, double and two RBI.
