EHS Picks Up Two Wins, St. A Goes To 11-0, Baseball Roundup

Effingham High School traveled to Flora Friday and claimed a 10-3 baseball victory.

Jackson Lee was bad news for the Wolves' pitchers Friday, driving in four runs on two hits to lead the Hearts. Lee drove in four runs on a home run in the fourth and a triple in the seventh.

EHS had moved ahead 7-3 after six innings then tacked on three more runs iin the seventh.

Quest Hull, Gabe Eaton and Max Nelson had two singles and an RBI each for the Hearts. Dylan Cunningham contrbiuted a double while Christian Raddatz had a single and two RBI.

Kaden Reardon earned the win for EHS going four innings, allowing one hit while striking out seven.

The Hearts then split an Apollo Conference doubleheader with Charleston Saturday.

In the opener, both teams went scoreless through the first four innings before the Hearts struck with a six-run fifth. EHS batters contributing to the big inning included Preston Latch and Quest Hull with an RBI each and Lee who launched a home run.

Lee finished with four RBI. Cunningham had two singles and Nelson two singles and an RBI.

Lee took the win on the mound, going 5.2 innings, allowing two hits and striking out six.

In the second contest, the Hearts led until the seventh inning when Charleston scored two runs to pull out a 5-4 victory.

Charleston got on board in the first inning with two runs when Courtney homered. The Trojans then tallied one in the top of the third to lead 3-0.

Effingham tallied two in the third and evened things up at 3-3 in the bottom of the fourth when Dylan Cunningham singled on a 3-1 count, scoring a run.

The Hearts had eight hits in the contest led by Hull with a single, double and an RBI. Joe Matteson had a single and two RBI. Cunningham had three singles and an RBI.

 At Olney

Effingham St. Anthony ran off to a 7-1 opening inning lead and ended this game in the fifth inning with a 13-1 win over Olney Saturday.

The Bulldogs had seven hits led by Logan Antrim with two singles and three RBI, Angelo Mendella with a single, double and three RBI, Kennan Walsh with a double and an RBI and Will Hoene with a double. Garnering RBI were Brody Niebrugge with a single and two RBI, Eli Levitt with a single and an RBI and Colton Fearday and Eli Link with an RBI each.

The Bulldogs' Josh Blanchette picked up the win in the mound, going four innings, allowing one run on two hits, two walks and one strikeout.

At Olney

At Altamont

Altamont edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead before Casey-Westfield tied in the second in Friday action. Then the two teams went silent until the seventh.

That's when Mason Robinson came up with a walk-off single to centerfield with two outs in the bottom of the seventh and gave the Indians a 2-1 victory.

Brayden Stuemke went seven innings, allowing one run on seven hits, one walk and striking out three for the win.

Robinson finished with two singles and both RBI in the contest. Jared Hammer had a double and Hayden Siebert and Stuemke two singles each.

The Indians then won again in exciting fashion Saturday over Cumberland, 3-1. It was a pitcher's duel most of the contest with two Cumberland pitchers combining for 20 strikeouts and two Altamont pitchers combining for 19 strikeouts for a total of 39 strikeouts in the game.

Altamont tallied a run in the third and Cumberland tied in the sixth. The game went into the eighth before Altamont won with two runs.

The Indians had six hits in the game led by Brennyn Abendroth with a single, home run and an RBI and Robinson with a single, double and an RBI.

Robinson was the winner on the mound going the last 1.1 innings allowing no runs on no hits, one walk and striking out three. Abendroth went 6.2 innings allowing one run on four hits, three walks while striking out 16.

Brownstown/St. Elmo and Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City did all of the scoring in the game in the first inning. BSE tallied two runs while CHBC had one and the Bombers claimed the victory.

BSE had two hits, singles by Jace McWhorter and Adam Atwood. Atwood drove in a run.

Carson Evans, Ian Hammond and Layne Jones had a single each for CHBC. Mason Manley had an RBI.

BSE improved to 5-5 on the season and plays today against Mulberry Grove at GCS Ballpark in Sauget at 6:30 p.m.

Dieterich took the early lead at 5-2 after three innings. Vandalia came back with thre ein the fourth and one in the fifth to move ahead 6-5. Diteerich tied in the sixth and Vandalia moved ahead 7-6 in the top of the seventh.

The Movin' Maroons then came back with two in the bottom of the frame to pull out the win.

Dieterich was led by Garrett Niebrugge with a single, double and five RBI, Austin Ruholl with three singles and two RBI, Pete Britton with two singles and Seth Bushur with a double.

Dalton Will was the winning pitcher, going five innings allowing six runs on five hits, five walks and three strikeouts.

Teutopoils fell to Highland in Friday action, 6-4.

Highland took a 1-0 lead in the second inning. T-town tied in the top of the third but Highland came back with three in the bottom of the frame and tacked on two more ni the fourth. The Wooden Shoes mounted a comeback with two in the fifth and one in the seventh.

Highland had 10 hits in the contest while T-town had eight.

The Shoes were led by Andy Niebrugge with two singles, a double and an RBI, Evan Wermert with a single and double, Logan Roepke with a double and Evan Addis with a single and three RBI.

The Shoes drop to 10-3 on the spring and Highland improved to 8-7. T-town is back in action today at South Central.

Newton stepped out to a 5-0 first inning lead and went on for a 12-5 win over Neoga Friday.

The Eagles banged out 16 hits in the contest led by Gage Reynolds with two doubles and an RBI, Kaleb Probst with a home run and two RBI, Mason Mulvey with two singles, a double and an RBI, William Geier with a single, double and an RBI, Aaron Einhorn with a single and double and Ben Meinhart with two singles.

Farley picked up the win, going five innings, allowing three runs on four hits, two walks and three strikeouts.

Neoga was led by Nate Lacy with a solo homer, Alex Ramert with a single, double and an RBI and Will O'Dell with two singles and an RBI.
