St. A, EHS, T-town, Altamont Winners In Baseball

Two runs in the bottom of the sixth produced a 2-1 victory for Effingham St. Anthony over South Central in high school baseball Thursday.

Neither team scored through five innings. The Cougars then tallied a run in the top of the sixth. The Bulldogs came back with two runs in the bottom of the frame and held on.

Both teams had three hits. St. Anthony was led by Colton Fearday with two singles and Will Hoene with a single.

South Central was led by Aaron Dodson with a double and Sebastin Cowger and Hunter Cripe with a single each.

It was a pitcher's duel as Antrim went the distance allowing the one run on three hits, three walks while striking out eight. A. Dodson picked up the tough-luck loss going six innings, allowing two runs on three hits, no walks and striking out three.

Both teams had two errors.

The Cougars dropped to 4-1 on the season while St. Anthony improved to 7-0.

At Newton

Effingham snatched the lead late in the game and claimed a 2-1 victory over Newton Thursday.

The score was knotted at 1-1 with the Hearts batting in the top of the sixth. Quest Hull was struck by a pitch, driving in what would prove to be the winning run.

Effingham's Kalen Reardon picked up the win on the mound, going six innings, allowing one run on five hits with two walks and six strikeouts. Jack Blickem came in the seventh, allowing one hit and one walk.

Jackson Lee got the Hearts off in the right direction with a solo home run in the first. Newton tied in the third.

Blickem finished with a single and double.

Newton was led by Ben Meinhart with a single and double and Mason Schafer with a double.

In the junior varsity game, Newton got things started in the first inning when an error scored a run. The Eagles pulled away for good with one run in the second. 

Kaiden Nichols had a double for the Hearts while Josh McDevitt and Spencer Fox had a single each.

Newton was led by Nichols, Flowers, Baltzell, Bierman and Lewis with a single each. Nichols drove in a run.

At Olney

Teutopolis came through with three runs in the sixth inning to capture a 4-1 win over Olney Thursday.

Both teams went scoreless through the first four innings. T-town scored in the top of the fifth and Olney tied in the bottom of the frame. The Wooden Shoes then won it in the sixth.

Evan Wermert and Evan Addis had two singles each for the Shoes. Derek Konkel and Logan Roepke had an RBI each.

Dylan Pruemer picked up the pitching win, going 2.1 innings, allowing no runs on one hit, two walks and one strikeout.

The Wooden Shoes improve to 8-2 on the spring. Olney drops to 1-4.

T-town is back in action Saturday at Charleston for a doubleheader.

At Altamont

Altamont stepped out to a 2-0 first inning lead and that's all the scoring there was as the Indians beat Brownstown/St. Elmo, 2-0 Thursday.

Brayden Stuemke went the distance, allowing one hit, no walks and striking out nine batters.

Kaden Eirhart had a single and double while Stuemke aided his own cause with two singles. Tyler Robbins added the other hit, a single.

BSE's lone hit was a double by Jace McWhorter. BSE drops to 2-4.

At Altamont
