Bulldogs, Cougars, Indians Nab Baseball Wins

A big scoring first inning was a hint at what the rest of the game would be as Effingham St. Anthony edged North Clay (Louisville), 11-9 in high school baseball action Monday.

The Cardinals opened the top of the first with seven runs. St. Anthony came back in the bottom of the frame with four runs.

North Clay moved ahead 8-4 in the second. But the Bulldogs came roaring back with a six-run third to move ahead 10-8. The Bulldogs then scored a single run in the fourth and that's where the scoring ended.

St. Anthony banged out 11 hits in the contest led by Kennan Walsh with a double, home run and two RBI, Eli Moore with a single, home run and two RBI, Will Hoene with a single and triple and Eli Levitt with a double. Colton Fearday had a single and drove in two runs.

Colton Fearday picked up the win on the mound, going six innings, allowing one run on two hits, one walk while striking out eight.

North Clay had five hits led by Donnie Zimmerman with a single, home run and an RBI and Dakota Teague with a single and two RBI.

St. Anthony committed four errors while North Clay had three.

At Kinmundy

South Central tallied a 10-0 victory over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City in five innings via the 10-run rule Monday.

The Cougars had 12 hits in the contest, led by Chase Dodson who went four-for-four with five RBI. Rubin had a double and an RBI and Hiestand a home run and two RBI.

Jolliff threw four innings, allowing no runs on three hits, two walks and four strikeouts.

CHBC was led by Q. Schlanser, S. Doty, G. Lorton and C .Evans with a single each.

In another contest, South Central edged Greenville, 2-1. The Cougars tallied a single run in the first and one in the third. Greenville scored in the fourth.

C. Dodson went all seven innings, throwing a one-hitter with no walks and a whopping 14 strikeouts.

C. Dodson aided his own cause with a solo homer. S. Rubin had the only other hit for the Cougars with a single.

At Newton

Altamont High School went on a tear offensively with 13 hits and blanked Newton, 9-0 in Monday action.

The Indians had multiple hits from Brayden Stuemke with three singles and an RBI, Tyler Robbins with a single and double and Brennyn Abendroth with two singles and two RBI. Six other players had one hit each.

Abendroth went four innings for the win on the mound. He allowed no runs on one hit, three walks and six strikeouts.

Newton finished with three hits and three errors. Aaron Einhorn, J. Rice and G. Reynolds had a single each for the Eagles.

At Brownstown

Mulberry Grove came calling and handed Brownstown/St. Elmo a 6-3 loss Monday.

Mulberry Grove struck in the opening inning with a run, then tacked on two in the third and three in the fifth. BSE came to life in the fifth with two runs and finished out with a run in the bottom of the seventh.

Scoggins picked up the win on the mound for Mulberry Grove, going 5.2 innings, allowing two runs on five hits, one walk while striking out 13. Scoggins also had a double for his team while Johnson had a single and double and Bauer a triple.

BSE was led by David Stine with a single and triple and Adam Atwood with two singles and an RBI. The Bombers drop to 2-3 on the season.
