D'backs Drop Cards In 16th
(Phoenix, AZ) -- Cliff Pennington singled home Jason Kubel in the bottom of the 16th inning to give the Diamondbacks a 10-9 win over the Cardinals. Gerardo Parra scored three times, including a solo shot to lead off the bottom of the first.
This was Brandon McCarthy's first start since exiting a game last September after getting hit by a liner in the head. The D'backs' starter gave up six runs in five-plus innings for the no decision.
Pittsburgh 3, Chicago Cubs 0
(Pittsburgh) -- PITTSBURGH — Wandy Rodriguez's fastball had abandoned him just in time to potentially ruin an otherwise fabulous night. There were no such problems with his curveball.
Rodriguez struck out Brent Lillibridge on a knee-locking full-count bender with the bases loaded in the seventh, and the Pittsburgh Pirates' revamped bullpen closed out a 3-0 win over the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday.
Chicago White Sox 5, Kansas City 2
(Chicago) — Adam Dunn homered and the Chicago White Sox went deep four times to back a solid start by Jake Peavy in a 5-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday.
Tyler Flowers, Dayan Viciedo and Alexi Ramirez also connected, and the White Sox made it two straight wins to start the season after dropping 12 of 18 to Kansas City a year ago.
