Brent Beals Leads Millikin In Hitting, Saves

DECATUR -- Brent Beals was recently named College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Player of the Week for Millikin University's baseball team..

During the week he earned the honor, he hit .583 as the Big Blue picked up three wins.

The Effingham High School graduate is in his senior year for Millikin and is currently hitting at a .435 clip. In 19 games, he has 30 hits, 14 of those doubles and four of them home runs. He has knocked in 25 runs and scored 25 runs.

Millikin University is sporting a 16-3 record. The Big Blue have beaten Marian University (3-0, 9-3), Hope College (7-3, 3-0), Coe College (8-6), Central College (7-2, 11-1), North Park University (12-5, 8-1, 4-3), Illinois Wesleyan (8-3), Elmhurst University (3-2) and Wheaton College (7-4, 4-2, 9-6, 28-5).

The losses have come to Coe College (9-0) and Elmhurst University (7-3, 12-7).

Not only has Beals, the captain this season, been hitting well, he's also been successful on the mound.

The 6-foot-2, 200-pounder comes on in relief, as the closer, and has picked up six saves. He has thrown a total of nine innings, allowed three hits, no runs, three walks and struck out 10. When he's not on the mound in relief, Beals plays second base.

Beals is the son of Lori Beals and Grant Beals.

Millikin is back in action Wednesday at North Central College in Naperville for a 3 p.m. game.
