Josh McDevitt Takes Part In Underclass Invitational

Josh McDevitt, an Effingham High School sophomore, went to the Underclass Invitational for Prep Baseball Report and was one of an impressive crop of pitchers according to the website for the PBR.

McDevitt, a right-hander, was the latest breakout arm. He had a 91.71 velocity maximum, an 86.28 EFF velocity, a spin rate of 2442 maximum and 2333 average.

At the Underclass Invitational, the pitching stole the show with over 20 pitchers topping at 85 mph or better from the freshmen and sophomore classes.

The Report read, "It was an eye-opening display of velocity from some of the best up-and-coming prospects around Illinois."

McDevitt's report read, "McDevitt debuted in the state's 2023 rankings after a breakout performance here. Well-proportioned strength throughout. Deliver: Simple tall and fall delivery, minimal wasted movement, stays closed down the mound, repeats. Arm Action: RH, Clean, uninterrupted arm action, high 3/4 slot. Loose and quick out front.

Fastball: T87, 85-87 mph. Clean and easy out of the hand, finish through the zone. Showed control, slight arm-side action. Max spin rate of 2,291 rpm.

Curve Ball: 68-71 mph, 11/5 shape, depth at times, 2,343 rpm max spin rate.

Slider: 72-74 mph. Max spin rate of 2,413 rpm. tight spin, short 10/4 action, around the zone.

Changeup: 77-79 mph. Thrown with intent, feel for the zone, mostly straight.

McDevitt, 6-foot-1, 190 pounds, competes for Effingham High School and is a member of the travel team, Central State Spikes.
