St. Anthony High School graduate Brandon Puckett was impressive on the mound in an outing for Marian University Monday.
Puckett entered the nightcap of a doubleheader against Oakland City University in Hoover, Alabama Monday. He entered the game after the tying run had scored and fanned two batters, ending the inning with the score at 1-1.
Meanwhile, Marian's offense erupted, eventually winning the game 12-1 in eight innings.
Puckett held his own over the next three innings, stranding a runner on third in the bottom of the fifth to prevent any runs from coming across the plate, while throwing scoreless sixth and seventh innings. In the seventh, Puckett picked up two more strikeouts. He earned the win, going 4-2/3 innings of scoreless ball.
Marian University has won three straight to improve to 5-4 on the season. They are back in action at Brewton-Parker University this weekend.
Puckett pitched for Lake Land College following graduation from St. Anthony, battling back from injury before heading to Marian. He's the son of Brent and Jody Puckett.
