Sox Walk Off On Tribe
(Glendale, AZ) -- Steve Tolleson drew a bases loaded walk to score Kevan Smith and the White Sox walked-off on the Indians, 5-4. Angel Sanchez lifted a two-run homer in the eight to tie the game. Daniel Webb picked up the win in relief. The Sox continue the exhibition season in Milwaukee against the Brewers on Friday and Saturday.
Garcia Leads Cardinals To Win
(Jupiter, FL) -- The Cardinals won their third straight in Grapefruit League play with a 10-1 win over the Nationals. Jaime Garcia pitched eight innings and allowed a run on six hits with eight strikeouts against a Washington lineup of minor-leaguers. Shane Robinson, Daniel Descalso and Pete Kozma had two hits each for the Cardinals. St. Louis plays its last game in Jupiter today against the Marlins.
Adam Wainwright is staying in St. Louis through 2018. The Cardinals have signed the 31-year-old pitcher to a five-year contract extension. According to multiple sources, the deal is worth close to $100-million. Wainwright went 14-13 with a 3.94 ERA in 32 starts last season after missing all of 2011 while rehabbing from Tommy John surgery.
Cubs, Royals Tie In 10 Innings
(Surprise, Ariz.) -- David DeJesus hit a game-tying sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth inning, as the Chicago Cubs and Kansas City Royals played to a 9-9 tie in spring training action. Dioner Navarro finished with two hits and two RBI for the Cubs. Starter Scott Feldman allow seven runs on 12 hits over 4 and one-third innings. The Cubs host Seattle in their Arizona finale today.
McCarver Leaving FOX, Not Retiring
(New York, NY) -- Veteran baseball analyst Tim McCarver says he's stepping down from Fox after he calls the World Series in October but he wouldn't call it a retirement. The former catcher won two World Series titles with the Cardinals as part of a 21-year playing career. McCarver began broadcasting in 1980 and has been the lead color analyst for FOX since 1996.
