CHBC Moves Ahead In NTC Baseball Tourney

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City edged Brownstown/St. Elmo to claim the play-in game at the National Trail Conference Baseball Tournament Friday.

CHBC and BSE played to a 1-1 tie in the opening inning. BSE moved ahead with two runs in the top of the third but the Bobcats tied in the bottom of the fourth. BSE then moved ahead with a run in the top of the fifth.

CHBC then came back with two runs in the bottom of the seventh to pull out the victory.

CHBC had six hits led by Mason Manley with two singles and a double and Ian Hammond with a double and an RBI. Wes Radloff had a single and drove in a run.

BSE was led by David Stine and Adam Atwood with two singles each. Stine added an RBI. Also with an RBI was Nick Nelson. BSE finished the season with a 6-11 record.

Silas Buzzard was the winning pitcher going 1.1 innings allowng no hits and two strikeouts.

CHBC advances to face top-seeded Altamont today at 4 p.m. at Altamont.

In other games today, Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg is at North Clay (Louisville), Dieterich at South Central and Neoga at St. Anthony, all four p.m. starts.

At Beecher City

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis played host to Neoga and picked up a 10-2 victory behind 13 hits.

The Wooden Shoes tallied single runs in the second and third. Neoga tied in the top of the fourth but T-town came back with two in the fifth and six in the sixth.

Sam Bushur had a single, two doubles and an RBI while Derek Deters had a single, home run and two RBI. Matt Deters finished with a single, triple and three RBI and Evan Wermert a single and double. The Wooden Shoes are 15-6.

Neoga was led by Adam Fearday and Luke Romack with a double each. Romack added two RBI. Neoga drops to 8-9.

At Woodlawn

Altamont picked up a non-conference win over Woodlawn Saturday, 6-4.

The Indians banged out 10 hits in the contest led by Bradin Baucum with a single, triple, home run and three RBI, Tyler Robbins with two doubles and an RBI and Brayden Stuemke with a single, triple and an RBI. Logan Cornett added two singles.

Altamont went through six pitchers.
