HOF Bob Gibson Dies At Age 84

Baseball Hall of Famer Bob Gibson, former St. Louis Cardinals pitching great, died at the age of 84 Friday.

He pitched from 1959 through 1975, all 17 years for the Cardinals. He was named an All-Star nine times and he and the Cardinals won World Series titles twice. He claimed the Cy Young award twice and was named the World Series Most Valuable Player in 1964 and 1967. He claimed the National League MVP award in 1968.

He finished with a 251-174 record, averaging 19 wins from 1963 through 1972 and reached 3,000 strikeouts. His best year ever was in 1968 when he finished with a 22-9 record, threw 13 shutouts and had an ERA of 1.12. He completed 28 of his 24 starts.

In 2019, he announced he had pancreatic cancer.
